Adventure Stage Chicago Season 14 Features AKEELAH AND THE BEE

???????Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC), the participatory arts program of Northwestern Settlement (the Settlement), announces its 14th season of programming for young audiences, exploring the theme of "Literacy" as the company applies its mission of telling heroic stories to the Settlement objective of disrupting generational poverty. ASC's "Literacy" season features the stage adaptation of Akeelah and the Bee; a commissioned work by Lucas Baisch, based on the Guatemalan myths of Popol Vuh and created in collaboration with community partners; and an original piece devised by ASC's Trailblazers youth mentorship program.  All performances take place at Northwestern Settlement's Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for youth aged 14 years and younger. Group tickets are $10 for ten or more guests. Student matinee tickets are $7 for CPS and $8 for non-CPS groups. Tickets may be purchased at adventurestage.org or by calling 773.342.4141.

HOOKMAN Extended Through 6/3

Steep Theatre plunges into the world of horror with their Midwest premiere of Lauren Yee's Hookman. The play, which has been described by Yee as an 'existential slasher-comedy', was directed by the Jeff Award-winner Vanessa Stalling (United Flight 232 - Best Play, Midsize). The production marks Stalling's Steep Theatre directorial debut. ??The cast of Hookman features Karen Rodriguez, Kiayla Ryann, Aja Wiltshire, Sasha Smith, James Doherty, and Mary Tilden.

Martin Zimmerman's SEVEN SPOTS ON THE SUN Starts Tonight at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in collaboration with The Sol Project presents the New York premiere of Martin Zimmerman's meditation on mourning, redemption and revenge, Seven Spots On The Sun, directed by 2016 Dora Award winner Weyni Mengesha, starring Flora Diaz (The Eyes of My Mother, Fox's 'Gotham'), Peter Jay Fernandez (Broadway: All the Way, Cyrano de Bergerac) and Flor De Liz Perez (CBS's 'The Good Wife,' West End: The Motherf**ker with the Hat, Dolphins and Sharks).

Goodman Theatre Joins CTG's New Co-Commission Initiative

Goodman Theatre joins Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group (CTG) in a new co-commissioning partnership that also involves three other internationally renowned theaters-London's Royal Court Theatre and National Theatre, and New York's Second Stage-in the hopes of generating new plays to appear in multiple cities over the next decade.

ASC creates and tells heroic stories about young people in order to engage the community and inspire everyone to be a hero in their own lives. Northwestern Settlement nurtures, educates, and inspires community in order to disrupt generational poverty in West Town and Chicago.

A NEVER-ENDING LINE at Broadway au Carré

Rising Sun Performance Company to Stage NYC Premiere of CHILD'S PLAY
