THE ILLUSION Plays The Open Fist Theatre 9/25-11/21

Epic Theatre Ensemble Announces 5th Annual Sunshine Series Line-up, Begins 5/28

New York's OBIE Award-winning Epic Theatre Ensemble (Zak Berkman, Melissa Friedman, Ron Russell, Founding Executive Directors) has announced the lineup for the fifth annual Sunshine Series 2009, a play reading festival nurturing new political plays. The free staged-readings begin May 28th at the East 13th Street Theatre (136 East 13th Street, between 3rd & 4th Avenues, just southeast of Union Square) where Epic is currently presenting the World Premiere of A More Perfect Union by Vern Thiessen.

Guthrie Theater's Tony Kushner Celebration Featured in Variety

The entertainment trade paper reports 'among the three full productions of plays by Kushner -- the 'Angels in America' scribe whose work is not exactly known for its modesty of scope or running time -- is the world preem of his latest, 'The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures,' which began perfs May 15th. Also on the roster is an evening of short works, 'Tiny Kushner,' which began May 16th.'

THE ILLUSION & GHETTO Open May Performances At Northwestern University

The Theatre and Interpretation Center at Northwestern University will continue its 2008-09 season in May with the two remaining Mainstage productions: an adaptation of a Pierre Corneille classic, and a Holocaust drama by Israeli playwright and director Joshua Sobol. It also will present a Wallis Works-In-Progress adaptation of a story by Zimbabwean doctor and celebrated writer J. Nozipo Maraire.

Northwestern University Announces 4/09 Theater Calendar

The Theatre and Interpretation Center at Northwestern University will continue its 2008-09 season in April with the Mainstage productions of a musical adaptation of Aesop's fables, two performance hours, an adaptation of a Pierre Corneille classic and two performance hours hosted by the performance studies department.

Northwestern's Season to Include Two Tony Winning Musicals

Under the new leadership of Artistic Director Henry Godinez and Managing Director Barbara Butts, the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University will kick off its 28th season in October with the Tony Award-winning musical 'Sweeney Todd' by Hugh Wheeler and Stephen Sondheim.

Tony Kushner to Receive First Steinberg Playwright Award

The New York Times reports this morning that Playwright Tony Kushner has been named the first recipient of the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award. The award, which which comes with a cash prize of $200,000 will be presented on Wednesday.

Guthrie to Present Tony Kushner Festival

Director Joe Dowling today announced that the Guthrie Theater will celebrate the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner in a landmark series set for the spring of 2009. In addition to presenting the previously announced Guthrie commission, tentatively titled The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, Dowling also announced plans for productions of Caroline, or Change on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and a collection of Kushner's short plays in the Dowling Studio as part of the upcoming 2008-09 Season. These three simultaneous productions will join a series of speakers, scholars and other special events designed to fully examine and celebrate Kushner's body of work.
