David Zinman and Richard Goode Return to the NY Phil, 12/5

David Zinman will return to the New York Philharmonic to lead Thomas Ades's Three Studies from Couperin, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 18 with Richard Goode as soloist, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, Scottish, Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Record Year for Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Fundraising and Ticket Sales

CHICAGO—The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) released its fiscal year 2013 results at its Annual Meeting today at Symphony Center. The 2012/13 season marked the CSOA's third consecutive year of record-breaking fundraising, with ticket sales at an all-time high, according to Jay Henderson, chairman, and Deborah F. Rutter, president of the CSOA, who also presented the artistic and financial highlights of the season.

NY Philharmonic's 'Insights Series' Now Free; 2013-14 Lineup Kicks Off Today

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and Singer Laurie Rubin Perform with LA Chamber Orchestra This Weekend

The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, led by Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, presents the highly anticipated U.S. premiere of the orchestral version of Bruce Adolphe's Do You Dream in Color?, a powerful work set to a poem about living without sight written by rising mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin. Born blind, Rubin, a 1997 Music Center Spotlight Awards winner, joins LACO for the premiere, marking her LACO debut, tonight, October 19, 8 pm, at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium, and Sunday, October 20, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.

Alan Gilbert Leads the NY Phil in Britten's 100th Birthday Celebration, 11/21

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in a celebration of the centennial of English composer, conductor, and pianist Benjamin Britten. The program will include Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, featuring tenor Paul Appleby and Philharmonic Principal Horn Philip Myers, and Britten's Spring Symphony, with soprano Kate Royal (in her Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Philharmonic subscription debut), tenor Paul Appleby, New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, and Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun-Menaker. The concerts, which include a performance on the composer's 100th birthday, November 22, will take place Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 23 at 8:00 p.m.

Miller Theatre to Present Composer Portrait of Rand Steiger, 11/7

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues the 2013-14 Composer Portraits series with electronic music innovator RAND STEIGER, featuring: PETER EVANS, trumpet; MILLER PUCKETTE and RAND STEIGER, electronics; INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE; and STEVEN SCHICK, conductor.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Presents Pianist Peter Serkin, 11/1

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra's (ASO) 2013-2014 season continues with concerts at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 8pm. Under the musical direction of Maestro José-Luis Novo, the ASO will be accompanied by world-renowned pianist Peter Serkin. These performances will feature Benjamin Britten's Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Frank Bridge's The Sea, and Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2.

National public television series 'All-Star Orchestra' has been awarded the 2013 ASCAP Deems Taylor Television Broadcast Award for outstanding broadcast and new media coverage of music. The award will be presented on November 14, 2013, to Music Director Gerard Schwarz, Video Producer John Forsen and Executive Director Paul Schwendener. 'All-Star Orchestra' airsSundays at 12:30 p.m. in the New York metro area on THIRTEEN & in Philadelphia on WHYY and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. in the New York metro area on WLIW21.

American Youth Symphony Performs Timo Andres' BATHTUB SHRINE in West Coast Premiere Tonight

The acclaimed American Youth Symphony (AYS), one of the nation's leading professional training orchestras for musicians ages 15 to 27, launches its 49th season with a free concert featuring the highly anticipated West Coast premiere of Timothy Andres' humorous Bathtub Shrine, Tchaikovsky's elegant Variations on a Rococo Theme, showcasing rising star Allan Steele, AYS's Principal Cello, and Berlioz' epic Symphony fantastique tonight, October 6, 2013, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. Music Director Alexander Treger, currently in his 16th season leading AYS, conducts the 106-member orchestra, noted for its innovative programming and inspiring performances.

Gerard Schwarz's ALL-STAR ORCHESTRA Wins 2013 Deems Taylor Television Broadcast Award

Music Director Gerard Schwarz's All-Star Orchestra, the made-for-television classical music concert series featuring leading musicians from top orchestras across the country, has been awarded the 2013 Deems Taylor Television Broadcast Award for outstanding broadcast and new media coverage of music. The award will be presented on November 14, 2013 to Mr. Schwarz, Video Producer John Forsen and Executive Director Paul Schwendener. All-Star Orchestra will commence with the second half of its programming on NYC's THIRTEEN and Philadelphia'sWHYY beginning on October 6 at 12:30 p.m. (check local listings). Episode five, "Relationships in Music," features Brahms' Academic Festival Overture and Schumann's Symphony no. 3,Rhenish. The series will conclude with episode eight, "Mahler: Love, Sorrow & Transcendence," on October 27.

Remembering Charles Rosen - An Evening of Music and (A Few) Words Set for Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The late pianist and author Charles Rosen will be celebrated in an evening of classical music and remarks on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Baisley Powell Elebash Hall at The Graduate Center of CUNY.
