Opening Saturday: Rental Gallery Presents Kenny Schachter: Retrospective

Rental Gallery is pleased to announce Kenny Schachter: Retrospective, an exhibition exploring the life, works, and feigned death of the art-world provocateur. The exhibition opens in the upstairs gallery with a public reception on Saturday, August 25 from 6-8pm.

Fox 21 Television Studios and The Littlefield Company Option Beth Macy's DOPESICK for Television

After a highly competitive bidding, Fox 21 Television Studios (Homeland, The Americans) and The Littlefield Company (The Handmaid's Tale, Fargo) have optioned best selling author Beth Macy's latest work which chronicles America's opioid crisis. Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America will be developed for television it was announced today by Bert Salke, President, Fox 21 Television Studios and Warren Littlefield, Principal, The Littlefield Company. Littlefield and Macy will serve as executive producers. Peter McGuigan and Richie Kern will be producers.

A Noise Within Presents MAN OF LA MANCHA

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre presents critical and audience favorite Man of La Mancha by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, original production staged by Albert Marre, originally produced by Albert W. Selden and Hal James, and based on Cervantes' Don Quixote. ANW Artistic Director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott directs. La Mancha performs August 16 - September 9, 2018 (Press Opening August 18).

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre presents critical and audience favorite Man of La Mancha by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, original production staged by Albert Marre, originally produced by Albert W. Selden and Hal James, and based on Cervantes' Don Quixote. ANW Artistic Director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott directs. La Mancha performs August 16 - September 9, 2018 (Press Opening August 18).

Marga Gomez Led KING OF CUBA Extends At Berkeley City Club

King of Cuba, a new comedy by award-winning writer Cristina Garcia, has extended through August 26th at the historic Berkeley City Club (originally scheduled to close August 19). In King of Cuba, two aging Cubanos hilariously have a go at each other. Opening night Marga was described as 'dethroning machismo,' while the house erupted as El Comandante (Marga Gomez) remarked "Nobody has bigger cojones than I do." The night then roiled with laughter as the two silver haired Cubanos 'knock each other down' verbally and otherwise.

AMERICAN MASTERS Presents an 'Artists Flight' of New Documentaries

Uncovering the lives and works of four groundbreaking visual artists, American Masters presents an "Artists Flight" of new documentaries, premiering Fridays, August 31-September 14 on PBS (check local listings). Four films tell the stories of four artists: Eva Hesse, the 1960s art world icon who changed art history and women's place in the picture; New York contemporary art maverick Elizabeth Murray; painter Andrew Wyeth, one of America's most popular, but least understood, artists; and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the New York graffiti artist turned '80s art world rock star who died 30 years ago (August 12, 1988). Each film will be available to stream the following day via pbs.org/americanmasters and PBS apps.

Whether we like it not, we are consumed by our connections to cardboard boxes. As a child, with the delight of life around every corner, the box is the most amazing gift-not the contents, just the box. As a parent, when the mind and body separate more with each passing day, our possessions (and sometimes our bodies) are stored in boxes for future generations to curse and explore. Are we to be summed up solely by the contents of a cardboard box-a somewhat nihilistic attitude in corrugated paper? box. unabashedly demands ransoming our lives from the boxes tucked away under the bed, back of the closet, down in the basement, up in the attic and gives voice to the process, often painful, of packing and unpacking our lives.

PBS Announces Fall 2018 Primetime Schedule

PBS today announced its fall 2018 schedule lineup, anchored by THE GREAT AMERICAN READ (Tuesdays, September 11- October 23). Exploring the power, passion and joy of reading, the series is hosted by Meredith Vieira and features reflections from everyday Americans as well as notables. Margaret Atwood, Lauren Graham, John Irving, Bill T. Jones, Devon Kennard, Gayle King, Diane Lane, George R.R. Martin and many more reflect on their favorite books. The series will culminate with the results of the first-ever national vote for “America's Best-Loved Novel.”

BPA Announces Cast For ROMEO & JULIET
