Composer/Percussionist Lukas Ligeti Celebrates 50th Birthday With Two Concerts, 6/11, 14

On the occasion of his 50th birthday (6.13.15), the Austrian Cultural Forum New York presents an unprecedented overview of composer/percussionist Lukas Ligeti's work as a composer including new pieces written specifically for the occasion. The concert series opens June 11th at the ACFNY, with performances of Lukas' solo and small ensemble works (performers include Thomas Bergeron, Candy Chiu, Jennifer Hymer, Ben Reimer, David Cossin, and others), and premiere pieces for Lukas' new classical/indie rock band, Notebook. The festival culminates June 14th at Roulette featuring Lukas' music for chamber orchestra. Program includes several world premieres, as well as U.S. and New York City premieres, performed by the fresh, contemporary-collective Ensemble mise-en conducted by Oliver Hagen, pianist Vicky Chow, and others. The little-known story of Mozart's talented sister is brought to life in THE OTHER MOZART, a dramatic play written by Sylvia Milo, directed by Isaac Byrne. Nannerl Mozart was a child musical prodigy, a keyboard virtuoso and composer, who performed throughout Europe with her brother to equal acclaim, but her work and her story faded away, lost to history. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) presents accomplished composer and musician Phyllis Chen performing a program featuring the world premiere of her composition, Lighting The Dark, tonight, December 10 at 8PM at the Baryshnikov Arts Center's Jerome Robbins Theater. The evening also includes Chen performing music by William Byrd / John Dowland, Silvia Corda, and Alvin Lucier-all composers who influenced her new work. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.bacnyc.org or 866-811-4111.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the Fall 2014 performance season, which runs September 17 to December 18. The BAC Presents series will feature the World, U.S., and New York Premieres of contemporary theater, dance, music, and multimedia works that have either been commissioned by BAC or created by artists who have been in residence at BAC. The season lineup also includes BAC Space 2014 -- a new initiative of BAC's Residency Program -- which reflects BAC's core mission to support artists at various stages of their artistic development, and expose audiences to innovative, contemporary new work.
