Center Theatre Group's production of 'Amelie, A New Musical' at the Ahmanson Theatre opened just last week and continues through January 15, 2017. Based on the motion picture written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, 'Amelie, A New Musical' will have its Broadway premiere at the Walter Kerr Theatre, beginning performances on March 9, 2017 and opening April 3, 2017.

Amelie A New Musical, based on the 2001 French film Amelie, has a magical charm that reminds one of Matilda, at least in the beginning scenes. We meet the young Amelie (Savvy Crawford) who enters through a picture frame (see photo at left) and proceeds to tell her story, quite sad in fact, for she is saddled with a heart condition and difficult parents who keep her isolated and unhappy. Her mother meets a tragic, almost freakish demise and Amelie is brought up by her father who lives in a world of his own. As she matures, she realizes her lot in life will be to make other people happy. Now onstage at the Ahmanson Theatre through January 15, Amelie A New Musical has some wonderfully imaginative moments and a sparkling cast under the fast-paced direction of Pam MacKinnon.

I'm so thrilled to say that on Thursday evening one of my biggest inspirations, Gavin Creel, along with Seth Rudetsky will be presenting a concert at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. I'm even more thrilled to say that I had the unique opportunity to hold him hostage on the phone for nearly half an hour to talk about his life, career, and some burning questions that I just had to have answered.

Jasmine Cephas Jones, who originated the role of 'Peggy Schuyler' Off-Broadway, then on Broadway in HAMILTON, takes her final bows in the role tonight, December 8. The actress took to Instagram today to express her gratitude for a 'life-changing 2 years.'

Producers announced today that AMELIE, A NEW MUSICAL will begin performances on Broadway on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48th Street) and officially open Monday, April 3, 2017, following a limited engagement at Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles (December 4, 2016 - January 15, 2017). The company will be led by Tony Award nominee Phillipa Soo and Adam Chanler-Berat, following the Los Angeles engagement.
