Musica Sacra, the longest continuously-performing professional chorus in New York City, will present a performance in honor of Women's History Month featuring works by acclaimed composers Meredith Monk and Jocelyn Hagen at New York's Alice Tully Hall on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
The story of Lilith, the bawdy alternate Jewish story of creation, will be presented as a magical folk opera entitled Lilith, the Night Demon in One Lewd Act by the renowned instrumentalists Veretski Pass (Stuart Brotman, Joshua Horowitz and Cookie Segelstein) in collaboration with the San Francisco Choral Artists. Performances will be given at the Osher Marin JCC on May 1, at the JCC of the East Bay in Berkeley on May 3, and at Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center on May 4. Following each performance of the opera will be a traditional 'klezmer dance party' with the music for which Veretski Pass is known. In addition, Joshua Horowitz and Veretski Pass will give a lecture demonstration on Thursday, February 20 at the Jewish Community Library in San Francisco.
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces the subject matter of the upcoming works to receive their world premieres by the Orchestra as part of the groundbreaking artistic collaboration with the MusicNOW Festival and Artistic Director Bryce Dessner. On Friday, March 21, the Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Louis Langrée, will premiere Nico Muhly's Pleasure Ground, a portrait work depicting the life of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead. On Saturday, March 22, Mr. Langrée and the CSO will premiere mountain, a new work by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang depicting the life of American composer Aaron Copland.
On Sunday, February 9 at 3:00pm, The Greenwich Village Orchestra, led by Metropolitan Opera conductor Pierre Vallet, will perform a concert to include excerpts form Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust, Ravel's Sheherazade with Grammy Award-wining mezzo-soprano Sasha Cook, and Brahms' Symphony No. 4. Each of the participating artists has created a portrait of the 12th-century Russian warlord Prince Igor, the subject of Borodin's opera of the same name, who made a significant impact on medieval Russian history but left behind no definitive visual record.
