General Director Placido Domingo has announced final casting information for LA Opera's new production of Akhnaten by Philip Glass. A co-production with English National Opera, Akhnaten will be conducted by Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin and staged by British director Phelim McDermott.

After its successful 2013 Joyce Theater debut, as part of Ice Hot: A Nordic Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) proudly welcomes Danish Dance Theatre, one of Scandinavia's leading dance companies, back onto its stage with the US Premiere of Artistic Director Tim Rushton's Black Diamond from October 13 - 16.

The progressive New York City-based string quartet Brooklyn Rider celebrates the release of its new collaborative album with Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter in a concert on Today, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. The album, So Many Things-to be released by Naive Records on September 30-features new works by the quartet's violinist and founding member Colin Jacobsen ("For 60 Cents") and by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw ("Cant voi l'aube"). Both were commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project and will receive their New York premieres at the October 13 concert.

The Living Earth Show - a Bay Area new music initiative comprised of electric guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andy Meyerson - will release its sophomore album Dance Music October 28 on New Amsterdam Records.  To celebrate the album, the group will perform in New York City on October 21 at National Sawdust.

New York Theatre Ballet will present a new installment of its highly acclaimed Legends & Visionaries series at Danspace Project (131 E 10th St, NYC, 10003) on October 6 and 8, 2016 at 8pm, as part of Danspace Project's Community ACCESS series*.  The evenings will include the World Premiere of a new piece by Antonia Franceschi set to an original musical score by Claire van Kampen.  

NEW YORK THEATRE BALLET Announces 2016-17 Season New York Theatre Ballet announces the 2016-17 season, which will include repertory performances throughout the year.

LA Opera will celebrate Halloween with two screenings of the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu, featuring a new score created by Matthew Aucoin, the company's new Artist in Residence. One of the greatest horror films ever made, the supremely creepy vampire thriller will be accompanied live by Mr. Aucoin conducting a chamber ensemble of musicians from the LA Opera Orchestra and soprano soloist Liv Redpath, a member of the company's Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. Presented as part of the company's Off Grand initiative, the screenings will take place on October 29 and 31 at the Theatre at Ace Hotel.

In celebration of the upcoming release of Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra, the first-ever classical work composed and performed by R.E.M. bassist and songwriter Mike Mills, Rolling Stone is premiering the track 'Sonny Side Up,' which they call 'a propulsive, upbeat piece full of weeping violin, driving rhythm guitar and an energetic backbeat.'

Chicago's historic Studebaker Theater will become the home of live opera with a contemporary adaptation of Henry Purcell's 1692 "The Fairy Queen," a reimagining of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" presented by Chicago Opera Theater (COT) beginning November 5. The California-based performance troupe Culture Clash and COT's Andreas Mitisek put a modernized spin on Purcell's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic with an edgy and hilarious examination of the messes mere mortals make of relationships. "The Fairy Queen" will be performed at Chicago's historicStudebaker Theater (410 S. Michigan Ave). The press performance will be November 5 at 7:30 p.m.Subsequent performances will be November 11 at 7:30 p.m. and November 13 at 3 p.m.

National Sawdust embarks on its sophomore season with a fresh commitment to being a leading incubator of new work. This season National Sawdust presents or produces ten operatic projects.

After its sold-out appearance in the 2013 Nordic Cool festival, Danish Dance Theatre returns to the Kennedy Center with Artistic Director and choreographer Tim Rushton's (MBE, Member of the Order of the British Empire) visually striking production, Black Diamond, October 18 and 19 for two performances in the Eisenhower Theater.

Full casting is today announced for Art at The Old Vic. Tim Key, Paul Ritter and Rufus Sewell star in Yasmina Reza's dazzling study of friendship, prejudice and tolerance. One of the most acclaimed plays of recent times, Art premiered in London twenty years ago and went on to become a phenomenon. Director Matthew Warchus reunites the original creative team.

For the first time ever, Chicago's iconic Music Box Theatre will host a classical live performance when Chicago Opera Theater (COT) debuts the Chicago premiere of Frank Martin's 1942 'The Love Potion' ('Le Vin Herbe') on September 30.

Kaufman Music Center's Face the Music, the country's only youth orchestra dedicated to studying and performing music by living composers, is tuning up for an exciting new season that includes a tribute to pioneering new music organization Bang On A Can to commemorate its 30th anniversary, performances of John Adams's notoriously difficult "Son of Chamber Symphony." as well as works by David Lang, Darcy James Argue, Snarky Puppy, Angelica Negron, Julia Wolfe and Missy Mazzoli.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 7pm, Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik, known for his 'dark-hued tone and razor-sharp technique' (The New York Times) and pianist/composer Timo Andres, will perform a concert at National Sawdust (80 North 6th St.). The performance is part of Andres' engagement as a National Sawdust curator for the 2016-2017 season, and will include a selection of works from Kutik's new album, Words Fail, out October 28 on Marquis Classics, including two of Mendelssohn's Songs without Words (arr. Friedrich Hermann), the New York premiere of Andres' Words Fail, and the world premiere of Michael Gandolfi's Arioso Doloroso/Estatico, both of which Kutik commissioned for the album. The duo will also perform Nico Muhly's Compare Notes, Stravinsky's Suite Italienne, and the world premiere of Andres' arrangement of a short work by Janacek titled Words Fail.
