Kaufman Music Center's Face the Music, the country's only youth orchestra dedicated to studying and performing music by living composers, is tuning up for an exciting new season that includes a tribute to pioneering new music organization Bang On A Can to commemorate its 30th anniversary, performances of John Adams's notoriously difficult "Son of Chamber Symphony." as well as works by David Lang, Darcy James Argue, Snarky Puppy, Angélica Negrón, Julia Wolfe and Missy Mazzoli.

The talented young musicians, who range in ages eight to 18 years old, will perform well-known works and premiere their own original pieces at venues across New York City, including Merkin Concert Hall, WNYC's The Greene Space, National Sawdust, Trans-Pecos, Roulette, Queens Museum and more.

.

"Face the Music members are talented, curious and committed young musicians who use the music of today as a vehicle to connect with new audiences and contribute to the vibrant texture of contemporary music," says Vasudevan Panicker, Face the Music's Director. "Working with living composers and new works that break down stylistic barriers, the students explore collaborative decision-making and develop problem-solving and leadership skills."

"A force in the New York new-music world" (New York Times), the 150-member Face the Music performs in different ensembles, including two orchestras, a jazz big band, an experimental-improvisation collective, string quartets and many chamber ensembles. Founded in 2005 by Kaufman Music Center, Face the Music received the 2011 ASCAP Aaron Copland Award, and has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Chamber Music Magazine, The Daily News, Strings Magazine, and on NPR's "All Things Considered."
