Celebrated Broadway and Off-Broadway actors Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change, Radio Golf), Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America, Wit), Brian Murray (The Crucible, The Play About The Baby), Jay O. Sanders (Pygmalion, The Apple Family Plays) and Nilaja Sun (No Child) will do a Benefit reading for The International Theatre and Literacy Project (ITLP) itlp.org on Monday February 9th at 7:30pm at The Daryl Roth Theatre 101 East 15th Street, New York City. They will be joined by actors James Williams (Radio Golf, The Piano Lesson), Peter Francis James (The Merchant of Venice, On Golden Pond), Miriam A. Hyman (The Commons of Pensacola, Macbeth) and Devin Haqq (Richard III, Macbeth).

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) recently announced a one week extension today for the new Public Lab musical Venice, with book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax, lyrics by Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, additional music by Curtis Moore, and choreography by Chase Brock. Directed by Eric Rosen, Venice began performances on Tuesday, May 28 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, June 23. It will now run an additional week through Sunday, June 30. The Public Theater began previews for the world premiere of DETROIT '67, a Public Lab production by Dominique Morisseau, on Tuesday, February 26. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, DETROIT '67 will run through Sunday, March 17 and opened last night in The Public's Shiva Theater. Additionally, the English language premiere of NEVA, written and directed by Guillermo Calderon, opened last night.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Names Announces Winner of 2012 Essentially Ellington

Three high school jazz bands took top honors on Sunday night at the 17th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center. The bands were chosen by a panel of judges composed of distinguished jazz musicians and historians, including Jazz at Lincoln Center's Artistic Director WYNTON MARSALIS; DAVID BERGER, BILL DOBBINS, JEFFREY HAMILTON and SHERMAN IRBY. The three top bands were chosen from a field of 15 finalist bands that participated in the three-day Competition & Festival from May 4-6.

Nominations in 14 categories were announced today by the Off-Broadway League for the 2012 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. This year's ceremony will once again benefit The Actors Fund. The Lortel Awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at NYU Skirball Center beginning at 7:00pm EST.

Signature Theatre Company has just announced a one-week extension for EDWARD ALBEE'S THE LADY FROM DUBUQUE, directed by David Esbjornson. The production will now play through Sunday, April 1 and is the inaugural production in The End Stage Theatre at the company's new home The Pershing Square Signature Center. The production will open on Monday, March 5. Tickets during the extension week are $75 each. Signature announced yesterday that Katori Hall's HURT VILLAGE has also been extended, and will now play in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre through March 25.
