WILMINGTON, Del. - OperaDelaware Monday entered rehearsals for its spring opera festival, which begins May 8 and continues over two weekends through May 17.  The festival highlights the best of French opera.

59E59 Theaters will welcome acclaimed actor Edward Petherbridge to Brits Off Broadway in MY PERFECT MIND, created by Told by an Idiot, written by Kathryn Hunter, Paul Hunter and Edward Petherbridge, directed by Kathryn Hunter. Produced by Told by an Idiot, Young Vic, and Theatre Royal Plymouth, MY PERFECT MIND begins performances on Wednesday, June 10 for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 28.  Press opening is Tuesday, June 16 at 7 PM.  The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7 PM; Friday at 8 PM; Saturday at 2 PM & 8 PM; and Sunday at 3 PM. Please note, there is an additional performance on Sunday, June 21 at 7 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Due to box office demand, Theatre for a New Audience is extending its fourth production of the 2014-2015 season, Fiasco Theater's The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare, directed by Jessie Austrian and Ben Steinfeld, for two additional weeks through Sunday, June 7, at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place. The Two Gentlemen of Verona opened on April 30.

In the summer of 2015 the New York Philharmonic will undertake its first performance residencies in Shanghai, as part of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership, and at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.

Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne ruled Broadway, toured the nation and even played London's West End in the middle of World War II. With the Theatre Guild, they took low salaries to play in acclaimed productions of Shaw, O'Neill and Shakespeare; as well as three plays by their good friend Noel Coward. Laurence Olivier once said, 'Everything I know about acting I learned from Alfred Lunt.' A Broadway theater was named for them in 1958, and the Cole Porter musical 'KISS ME KATE' was inspired by their on and off-stage battles. Hugely famous in their time, they are now almost completely forgotten by the general public.

Peter Brook's pared down LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN is perfect for Opera in the Heights, but it lacks the magic and richness of Georges Bizet's CARMEN. However, if you combine all that is good about Brook's LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN with the talented cast and crew of Opera in the Heights, you have a good time on your hands.

When doing an interview with an artist I am in awe of their love and dedication for their craft. This month I had the pleasure to meet American mezzo-soprano Briana Hunter and our conversation went from traditional interview to old friends talking about their love for the classics. Our mutual love for Bizet's masterpiece CARMEN and love for Audra McDonald made this interview go very quickly.
