Commission Theatre Announces Cast Of The Tempest

Commission Theatre (CT) presents THE TEMPEST by William Shakespeare. THE TEMPEST will be directed by Commission Artistic Director Conner Wilson. The opening night and press performance will take place on June 14th at 8 pm. with Thursday - Saturday performances through June 29th.

The annual Highlights In Jazz series, a fan fave for almost a half century, can be counted on to deliver concerts that surprise and delight savvy jazz fans. The third event of the 2019 lineup showcases one of the series' most beloved traditions: paying homage to a living jazz great. The Highlights In Jazz presentation Salute to Randy Brecker celebrates the music and contributions of this beloved trumpeter and contemporary jazz icon. “Let's honor them while they can smell the roses,” declares producer Jack Kleinsinger.

SONGBOOK SUMMIT Opens Tonight Celebrates Berlin, Kern, Carmichael & More Starting Tonight

Peter and Will Anderson - the identical twins and Juilliard graduates hailed as "virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone" by The New York Times - begin the return engagement of their SONGBOOK SUMMIT concert series at Symphony Space for a four-week residency tonight, August 7, scheduled to run through September 2. The Andersons and their six-piece ensemble shine the spotlight on four iconic composers (one per week) in a celebration of the Great American Songbook. The show features an engaging video presentation, entertaining narration, and live performances from the jazz sextet featuring vocalist Molly Ryan.

Identical twin brothers, Peter and Will Anderson, have kept a pure love of music and discovery from their childhood at the forefront, as they've built successful careers and found their place in the jazz community. Playing the clarinet and saxophone since grade school, this duo went on to study at The Juilliard School, and through the support of their mentors, were introduced to different sounds and styles and guided to performance opportunities all throughout New York City. Building impressive resumes, they have toured all throughout the United States, as well as internationally, and have worked on composing their own music for numerous albums. Inspiring audiences of all ages, these modern-day trailblazers are keeping the legacies of the greats alive by sharing the soulful history and sounds of jazz that have influenced generations.

Winners Announced for The Jessie Awards

Returning to its theatrical roots this year, the 36th annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were held on Monday, July 16th at Bard on the Beach in the BMO Mainstage in Vanier Park, a fitting venue in a magnificent setting. The awards celebrate excellence in professional theatre and salutes all the talent who contribute to Vancouver's fantastic theatre scene. Thirty-five companies registered over 57 productions this past year contributing to a dynamic theatre season.

With the help of celebrated guest artists,American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) raised $1.2 million at its 2018 Season Gala honoring Carey Perloff and her 25-year tenure as artistic director. Tony Award winning choreographer and director George Faison (The Wiz) presented Andre De Shields, a two-time Tony nominee, Drama Desk nominee, Emmy winner and multi-Audelco Award and Outer Critics Circle Award winner, with the 2018 Bob Harrington Lifetime Achievement Award at the 33rd Annual Bistro Awards Gala, held at Gotham Comedy Club in New York on March 12th. De Shields received the Bistro Awards' highest honor for his five decades of stage and nightclub accomplishments.

The dynamic Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks return for another summer playing the best of 1920s and '30s jazz on Saturday, July 9 (6:30pm).
