ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER is an often amusing, thought provoking play about what happens when the lives of mismatched people collide in complicated ways that highlight hurt and the challenges of individuals who don't know who they are or how to be in the world. The Ensemble production doesn't quite reach the quality of the play's writing, but does hold attention and leaves the audience thinking.

Signature Theatre will present an evening of cocktails and a special one-night-only concert starring one of Broadway's living legends, Betty Buckley, on Monday, September 30 in The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 W. 42nd Street) to support the Legacy Program in honor of Horton Foote. Amas Musical Theatre will present three free staged readings of 'Bleeding Love, a post-apocalyptic new musical comedy', book by Jason Schafer, music by Arthur Lafrentz Bacon, lyrics by Harris Doran, directed by Michael Bush. The readings will take place on Tuesday, October 15th at 3:00pm and 7:00pm, and Wednesday, October 16th at 1pm at The Theatre at the 14th Street Y, 314 East 14th Street.

Rowan Joseph, a nationally-recognized producer and director with over 30 years of experience working in the American Theatre has been named as the new Producing Artistic Director of the Totem Pole Playhouse.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is pleased to announce the East Coast premiere of Appropriate, an audacious comic drama written by native Washingtonian Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed). Jacobs-Jenkins' brazen reimagining of the classic Southern family drama will continue Woolly's season-long excavation of the secrets that lie beneath America's sunny exterior.

In this humorous allegory for the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, Anna, an unmarried schoolteacher, is diagnosed with ATD (Acquired Toilet Disease). It's fatal and mysterious, so she and her brother Carl take off for a dream tour of Europe before the inevitable happens. As Anna drowns herself in the sensuality of food and sex, Carl becomes involved in a wild Third Mannish espionage scheme to find a cure for his sister. But the cracks in the story start to widen and soon the audience becomes aware that they are engaged in Anna's fantasy attempt at keeping her brother's spirit alive when she can not save his life.

The Huntington Theatre Company presents a concert version of Jason Robert Brown's powerful contemporary musical The Last Five Years for three performances only November 23 and 24. Adam Kantor (Rent, Avenue Q) and Betsy Wolfe (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Everyday Rapture) play the two twenty-something New Yorkers who dive head-first into marriage, fueled by the optimism of finding 'the one.' Winner of Drama Desk Drama Awards for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, The Last Five Years takes a bold look at one young couple's hope that love endures the test of time.

The Alliance Theatre has announced the American premiere of CHOIR BOY, a modern coming of age story by Tarell Alvin McCraney, winner of the 2008 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition for his play In The Red and Brown Water. The American premiere of CHOIR BOY is co-produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York, where CHOIR BOY opened earlier this month to outstanding reviews. The New York production has been extended twice due to popular demand and will close August 11. CHOIR BOY will run on the Hertz Stage at the Alliance Theatre September 20 - October 13, 2013. Opening night is Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

Trinity Repertory Company's Young Actors Studio boasts new and favorite classes for fall. Students can experience all aspects of theater through a range of classes including Musical Theater Dance, Trinity Technicians and Playreading Aloud! Silver Spring Stage presents The Baltimore Waltz by Paula Vogel, directed by Bob Scott and produced by Bob Benn, a giddy and emotional quest of a woman recently diagnosed with a bizarre illness and her brother in a whirlwind tour of Europe to find a cure, encountering an espionage scheme and discovering surprising twists and turns. The Baltimore Waltz will perform weekends September 20 to October 12.

Theatre of NOTE presents the world premiere of SHEET CAKE SLIDING, written by Stacia Saint Owens and directed by Nicholas Newell. SHEET CAKE SLIDING, in which a nuclear family goes BOOM!, will preview tonight, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, and will open on Friday, September 20 at 8pm and run through Saturday, October 19 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater presents Lucy Thurber's The Hill Town Plays, a cycle of five plays--Scarcity, Ashville, Where We're Born, Killers and Other Family, and Stay-- whhich opened last night, September 5, 2013; the closing date is Saturday, September 28, 2013.

The 06 Ensemble is back combining art, entertainment and community service with the third installment of their critically acclaimed Bench Project. Christopher Chen -- a San Francisco-based playwright whose works include THE HUNDRED FLOWERS PROJECT and other plays - is the 2013 recipient of the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, presented annually by Vineyard Theatre to an emerging playwright of exceptional promise, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, Vineyard Theatre's Artistic Director and Sarah Stern, Co-Artistic Director.

Stage Left Theatre announces the recipients of the Downstage Left Playwright Residencies for Season 32. Residencies are designed to help playwrights take a project from the conceptual stage all the way to a production-ready script. Playwrights work closely with ensemble directors and members of the literary team to design a process tailored to the particular needs of their project.
