LTC to Present 2015 Carnaval of New Latina/o Work This Summer

The Latina/o Theatre Commons (LTC), in collaboration with Emerson College's HowlRound, a commons by and for people who make performance, announces the 2015 Carnaval of New Latina/o Work (Carnaval 2015) showcasing 12 new works by Latina/o playwrights from across the U.S., July 23-25, 2015 in Chicago.

Berkeley Rep Stages the West Coast Premiere of HEAD OF PASSES, Now thru 5/24

Berkeley Repertory Theatre proudly welcomes MacArthur 'Genius' Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney for the West Coast premiere of Head of Passes, a poignant and poetic story about the journey of family and faith, trial and tribulation. In a dilapidated house near the ever-shifting mouth of the Mississippi, Shelah's family gathers on a stormy night for her birthday -- bringing ghosts and secrets of the past with them. As her roof buckles under the weight of the rain, Shelah's convictions begin to wash away, leaving her to excavate the truths buried below. Directed by Tina Landau, the riveting Head of Passes comes to the Bay Area straight from its critically lauded world premiere in Chicago. Head of Passes is a co-production with the Public Theater in New York. It begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage today, April 10, opens today, April 17, and runs through Sunday, May 24, 2015. Press night for Head of Passes will be held today, April 17, 2015.

Artists Rep Welcomes Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy

Artists Repertory Theatre announces the launch of its ambitious New Play Development Program by naming Luan Schooler Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy. Schooler will begin the post April 13, 2015. At the end of 2014, Artists Rep conducted a national search to find the right match for this position and the aesthetic of the theatre.

Signature Extends Athol Fugard's THE PAINTED ROCKS AT REVOLVER CREEK thru June 7

Signature Theatre has announced a one week extension for the world premiere of The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek, written and directed by Athol Fugard. The production begins performances on April 21 and will now run through June 7 with a May 11 opening night in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).

Lincoln Center Theater has announced the first two productions of its 2015-2016 season: DADA WOOF PAPA HOT, a new play by Peter Parnell, to be directed by Scott Ellis, beginning performances Thursday, October 15 and opening Monday, November 9 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater; and the LCT3 world premiere production of KILL FLOOR, a new play by Abe Koogler, to be directed by Lila Neugebauer, which will begin performances Saturday, October 3, open on Monday, October 19, and run through Sunday, November 15 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street).

League of Professional Theatre Women to Host Networking Event, 3/23

On Monday, March 23, the League of Professional Theatre Women (LPTW), a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in the professional theatre, will present a special event for Women's History month, Writing Plays By, For, or About Women. The event will be from 6pm to 8pm at Theater Lab at 357 W. 36th St. on the 3rd floor, focusing on the roles of women in today's theater. La Jolla Playhouse Extends Run Dates for Select 2015-16 Shows, Including New Musical from Robert Lopez & Kristen-Anderson Lopez

Due to the incredible demand for subscriptions to the 2015/2016 season, La Jolla Playhouse announces a week-long extension for its first two season productions: Come from Away, a world-premiere musical written and composed by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, as well as for Up Here, a world-premiere musical comedy directed by Alex Timbers (Playhouse's Peter and the Starcatchers), featuring book, music and lyrics by the husband-and-wife team of Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who took home the Academy and Grammy Awards for Best Song with their mega-hit "Let It Go" from the Disney animated film Frozen. Come from Away will now run May 29 - July 5 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre, and Up Here will now run July 28 - September 6 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.
