The Dallas Opera is proud to announce its spectacular 2016-2017 Season, consisting of five brilliant mainstage productions, including two repertoire classics never before performed by this company. 

Second Stage Theatre will soon present the New York premiere production of SMART PEOPLE, the new play by LYDIA R. DIAMOND (Stick Fly), directed by Tony® Award winner KENNY LEON (A Raisin in the Sun, The Wiz Live!). MAHERSHALA ALI (House of Cards), JOSHUA JACKSON (The Affair), ANNE SON (My Generation), and TESSA THOMPSON (Creed) will co-star in the production. Performances for SMART PEOPLE will begin on January 26, 2016 at Second Stage Theatre's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd street); opening night is February 11, 2016. Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere of Dominique Morisseau's play SKELETON CREW, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson and featuring Jason Dirden, Wendell B. Franklin, Lynda Gravatt, Nikiya Mathis and Adesola Osakalumi. SKELETON CREW officially opens tonight, January 19, and plays a limited engagement through Sunday, February 14, 2016 Off Broadway at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16 Street).

The Dallas Opera is the proud recipient of two extraordinary new gifts, totaling $2 million, from The Eugene McDermott Foundation and Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) McDermott, who have requested that the position of Dallas Opera General Director and CEO be known henceforth as the “Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO” in honor of the longtime Dallas Opera Board Member and Past Chairman.  Dr. Wildenthal currently serves the company as an Officer-at-large on TDO's Executive Committee.

The fourth season of The Artist Project, the online video series created by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, launched today-Monday, December 7. Each episode in the series features an artist who discusses an individual work of art or gallery at the Met that sparks his or her imagination. The series will be presented in six seasons of 20 episodes each.

Can YOU feel a brand new day? We're gearing up to ease on down the road with powerhouse newcomer Shanice Williams and the rest of the gang from Oz, when THE WIZ LIVE! premieres Thursday, December 3, at 8pm on NBC.  Of course, as was the case in 2013's THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE! and last year's PETER PAN LIVE!, the cast is certainly not short on big-name talent — and most come with Broadway or theatrical credits, no less.
