Tony Award-winning playwright Lisa Kron will be a featured guest and participant at the launch party of the Women's Voices Theater Festival on September 8 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The invitation-only event kicks off the beginning of the Festival, an unprecedented collaboration among professional theater companies that includes the presentation of more than 50 world-premiere productions of work by female playwrights, taking place this September and October in the nation's capital region. The launch party features a creative conversation between Kron and National Public Radio's Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg focused on gender parity in the arts in the Museum's Performance Hall, followed by a celebratory party and toast to officially declare the start of the Festival.

The Ford's Theatre Society 2014-2015 season continues with the musical Freedom's Song: Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, directed by Jeff Calhoun, March 13 through May 20, 2015, at the historic Ford's Theatre (511 Tenth Street NW, Washington, D.C.). A new adaptation of the Broadway musical The Civil War, Freedom's Song features the words of Abraham Lincoln and music inspired by the letters of those who lived through the Civil War. The production is part of Ford's 150: Remembering the Lincoln Assassination, a series of events marking the 150 years since Abraham Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre.
Ford's Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault today announced the Ford's Theatre 2015-2016 season. Productions include the world-premiere play The Guard by Jessica Dickey and directed by Sharon Ott-part of the fall 2015 Women's Voices Theater Festival; The Glass Menagerie featuring Nancy Robinette; and the musical 110 In the Shade directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge and featuring Tracy Lynn Olivera. Ford's Theatre Society announced that a donation drive during performances of A Christmas Carol has raised $84,383.57 for the Washington-based charity Thrive DC. Donations were collected November 20-December 28, 2014. In addition to the curtain call collection, patrons also were encouraged to make donations through the Ford's Theatre Box Office, and members of the Ford's Theatre Society staff donated money to the campaign.

The Ford's Theatre Society announced that the company of the 2014 production of A Christmas Carol is partnering with Thrive DC to create a donation drive inspired by the themes of charity in Dickens's holiday classic. During the curtain calls for performances of A Christmas Carol, the company will collect monetary donations on behalf of the Washington-based non-profit Thrive DC. Patrons also can make donations through the Ford's Theatre Box Office. All donation checks should be made payable to 'Thrive DC.' A Christmas Carol plays at Ford's Theatre from November 20, 2014, through January 1, 2015.

The evening included the presentation of the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal to actor James Earl Jones and the U.S. House of Representatives' longest-serving member, The Honorable John D. Dingell. The award was given in recognition of their extraordinary character, service, accomplishments and work reflecting Lincoln's legacy of humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision.
