Bach Festival Society of Winter Park is pleased to announce the commissioning of a new work in celebration of conductor and artistic director John V. Sinclair's 25th anniversary with the Society. The piece, titled Music, Awake!, with music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and words by distinguished author Terry Teachout, celebrates the universal power of music. It will be premiered during concerts with the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra on April 16 and 17, 2016. Christie is recognized as “ … a top-notch conductor of new works …” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Based on the novel by Richard Condon and directed by Kevin Newbury, The Manchurian Candidate traces the mysterious story of an American soldier decorated during the Korean War who is brainwashed into becoming an unwitting assassin in a conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government. This taut and suspenseful thriller is the highly anticipated second opera by composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell, creators of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Silent Night.

As the New England Conservatory's affiliate orchestra, BMOP regularly features the talent of NEC students and alumni. The evening includes: the world premiere of Ondine by 2014-15 BMOP/NEC Composition Competition winner Stephanie Ann Boyd; John Harbison's Concerto for Bass Viol, featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra principal bassist Edwin Barker, and the Boston premiere of Paul Moravec's The Blizzard Voices with the NEC Concert Choir. Thanks to the generosity of the Gregory E. Bulger Foundation, this concerts is free to the public.

Long Island's longest-running classical music festival launches a new spring series this year. The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, which since 1984 has taken place every summer in the beautiful seaside setting of the island's East End, will inaugurate BCMF Spring with two Sunday concerts, on March 22 and April 26, 2015.
