The Federico Garcia Lorca Foundation announced today the largest-ever festival in North America celebrating the work of Federico Garcia Lorca, who is often described as the most influential Spanish poet and playwright of the last century. "Lorca in New York: A Celebration" (April 5- July 21) features more than two dozen events at venues throughout Manhattan, many of which will mine an aspect of Lorca's classic work, Poet in New York. Anchored by a world-premiere exhibition at The New York Public Library (NYPL) and timed to the release of Farrar, Straus and Giroux's new, enhanced edition of Poet in New York, the festival marks the first time in more than 25 years that the city will pay tribute to Lorca on a grand scale.

Now in its 15th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook celebrates the best in American singing and songwriting with a new chapter in the Songbook story: 'American Songbook in the Penthouse,' a series of weekend-only performances by performers and composers presented in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. The second weekend of Kaplan Penthouse performances, the sixth week of American Songbook 2013, runs April 5-6, 2013. April 5th belongs to Cristin Milioti, who was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for her lead role in the musical Once.

On Saturday March 16th, The Little Orchestra Society presents the event of the season, a performance of Tubby the Tuba with narration by the legendary Patti Smith. Led by Guest Conductor David Alan Miller, this is described as a unique take on a classic will follow Tubby in his discovery of melody and sound.

St. Ann's Warehouse welcomes back Cynthia Hopkins-having commissioned and presented the artist's work since 2004-for the world premiere of her new song cycle extravaganza, This Clement World. Featuring original avant-folk songs performed by a seven-piece band and a choir, documentary footage Hopkins shot on an Arctic expedition with Cape Farewell, and the artist inhabiting three fictional characters on-stage, This Clement World offers a poetic but urgent perspective on global climate change.

This timeless classic by George Kleinsinger was a childhood favorite of guest narrator, Patti Smith, and her enthusiasm for it will bring a new perspective to this whimsical and touching piece of music. Hear Tubby the Tuba's melody ring throughout the orchestra and learn how melodies and soloists can come from the most unexpected places. Other works on the program include selections from Tan Dun's Concerto for String Orchestra and Pipa, Haydn's Cello Concerto in C Major, and Morton Gould's Tap Dance Concerto. Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is set to launch his 2013 Acoustic Tour with a string of U.S. dates beginning January 19th at Keller Auditorium in Portland, OR.
