Alan Cumming, Shaina Taub, and More Coming Up at Joe's Pub

Joe's Pub at The Public invites a slate of world-class artists to take residence on its venerable stage. Acclaimed actor and singer Alan Cumming will descend with a two-week midnight run of his brand new show Legal Immigrant, from June 19-30. Fellow Joe's Pub favorites like Penny Arcade, Bridget Everett, Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes and Shaina Taub line the calendar with monthly performances. Plus, due to popular demand, Rob Paulsen and Randy Rogel return with an extended run of their show Animaniacs Live!, a musical revue, May 24-27.

Joe's Pub to present ROCK SOLID WOMEN'S FESTIVAL as Part Of Nona Hendryx's Vanguard Residency

Grammy-nominated funk rock pioneer Nona Hendryx continues her year at Joe's Pub at The Public as the inaugural recipient of The Vanguard Residency and Award. On March 19, Hendryx invites Liza Jessie Peterson to debut Down the Rabbit Hole: A Peculiar Patriot All Day Mashup of stories from behind the wall, a mix of Peterson's acclaimed one-woman show The Peculiar Patriot and her book All Day. Over March 29-31, Hendryx convenes the first-ever Rock Solid Women's Festival: Celebrating Women in Art & Music, presenting a radically inclusive lineup of poets, singers, songwriters and literary writers.

The Public Theater Extends KINGS Through April 1

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced today a one-week extension for the world premiere of KINGS, written by Sarah Burgess and directed by Thomas Kail. Part of The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work at 425 Lafayette Street and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR, KINGS officially opens on Tuesday, February 20 and will now run an additional week through Sunday, April 1.

Playwrights for 2018-19 Emerging Writers Group Announced at the Public

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the nine new playwrights today for the 2018-19 Emerging Writers Group. Now in its seventh cycle, the Emerging Writers Group is an ongoing initiative that targets playwrights at the earliest stages of their career, creating an artistic home, and offering support and resources for a diverse group of up-and-coming playwrights.

Public Theater Announces Casting for Lynn Nottage's MLIMA'S TALE

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced complete casting today for the world premiere of MLIMA'S TALE, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. Directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, MLIMA'S TALE continues The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR. MLIMA'S TALE begins performances on Tuesday, March 27 and runs through Sunday, May 20 in The Public's Martinson Hall, with an official press opening on Sunday, April 15.

The Public and Joe's Pub Begin Previews BLACK LIGHT February 12

The Public Theater begin previews of Black Light, starring Jomama Jones, the alter ego of Daniel Alexander Jones, on Monday, February 12 in Joe's Pub at The Public. Black Light is a moving, music-laden work - a revival of sorts - for turbulent times. Created by Jones, the show features original music by Jomama, Laura Jean Anderson, Bobby Halvorson, Dylan Meek and Josh Quat with music direction by Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes. Performances begin Monday, February 12 and run through Sunday, March 25, with an official press opening on Sunday, February 25.

The Public Announces Joe's Pub Working Group

Joe's Pub at The Public announces the new class of Joe's Pub Working Group (JPWG), the venue's artist development program dedicated to enhancing the career sustainability and growth of performing artists. Entering its fourth year, JPWG welcomes five artists - playwright and songwriter Dan Fishback, classically trained bandleader Juliette Jones, violinist and composer Dana Lyn, jazz composer and pianist Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes and cabaret darling Tori Scott - as the core group that represents the diversity and scope of the nightly programming at Joe's Pub.

Daphne Rubin-Vega and More Tapped for The Public's MISS YOU LIKE HELL

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced complete casting today for the New York premiere of MISS YOU LIKE HELL. With book and lyrics by Quiara Alegr a Hudes and music and lyrics by Erin McKeown, the new musical is directed by Public Theater Resident Director and Founder of Public Works Lear deBessonet, with choreography by Danny Mefford. The musical will begin previews in The Public's Newman Theater on Tuesday, March 20 and run through Sunday, May 6, with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 10.

The Public Theater Announces Spring 2018 Line-up For Public Shakespeare Initiative Humanities Events

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) has announced the Spring 2018 PUBLIC SHAKESPEARE INITIATIVE line-up of special evenings exploring the ideas and themes of some of Shakespeare's most challenging and essential works. Highlights of this programming include a look at the outsiders within Othelloand The Merchant of Venice with Stephen Greenblatt and Kwame Anthony Appiah; sneak peeks of Robert O'Hara's Mobile Unit production of Henry V and the Shakespeare Works artist development program; a discussion about the production history of Othello and putting it on stage for today's contemporary audience with James Shapiro and Ayanna Thompson; and special invited performances of As You Like It by the Hunts Point Children's Shakespeare Ensemble.
