BWW Review: Strawberry Theatre Workshop's THE BIRDS Creeps in Good and Bad Ways

First off if you're expecting to see a Tippi Hedren lookalike being chased by animatronic birds in Strawberry Theatre Workshop's current production of "The Birds" then you'll be quite disappointed. This is not an adaptation of Hitchcock's film but of Daphne du Maurier's book. But even though we never really see the attackers, the evening still contains a good amount of creepiness. After all, the monsters in our minds are scarier than anything they could show us.

Photo Flash: First Look at THE INVISIBLE HAND at Artists Rep

Artists Repertory Theatre is proud to present Portland audiences with The Invisible Hand by Ayad Akhtar, directed by former Artistic Director Allen Nause, beginning March 10, 2015. This production is in association with Seattle's ACT Theatre and follows their production of the play last September with much of the same design team, but includes two new cast members. ACT's production was named 'Best Play' in the Broadway World 2014 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards. At the end of 2014, The Invisible Hand was produced Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop. 'JACQUES BREL', With Louis Hobson and Kendra Kassebaum, Opens Tonight at ACT in Seattle

Beginning this month, A Contemporary Theatre (ACT) continues to partner with the 5th Avenue Theatre, co-producing a musical that appears on each organization's season and performed at ACT. Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris opens tonight, March 12, and runs for 10 weeks in the Falls Theatre, directed by David Armstrong.

2014 Gypsy Rose Lee Award Winners Announced!

Joshua Carter, currently working the national musical tour of Once, wins Performance in a Musical as a Lead Actor (Male) for his work in Little Shop of Horrors, along with his co-lead, Jessica Skerritt. Bill Berry wins as well as director of the co-production of ACT Theatre and The 5th Avenue Theater (housed at ACT).

ACT Presents AN EVENING OF ONE ACTS, Now thru 8/10

A full plate of theatre portioned out in three short plays, ACT - A Contemporary Theatre presents An Evening of One Acts. The line-up begins with a curtain raiser by Steve Martin, Patter for the Floating Lady, followed by Woody Allen's Riverside Drive, and the evening culminates with Sam Shepard's The Unseen Hand. All three plays deliver an experience that will stretch the imagination with magic, surprise, wonder, and a dose of science fiction fantasy.

Arthur Miller's THE PRICE Returns to ACT Tonight

Two estranged brothers who haven't spoke in sixteen years are forced to come together to settle their late father's estate. In the attic of a New York brownstone scheduled for demolition, two men whose lives have taken different paths attempt to resolve their father's holdings and reconcile a past rife with conflicting family histories. Nominated for two Tony Awards including Best Play, The Price is one of Arthur Miller's masterpieces examining the worth of family loyalty in a powder keg of resentment and animosity.

Washington Ensemble Theatre Stages ED, DOWNLOADED, Now thru 2/24

Washington Ensemble Theatre to Present ED, DOWNLOADED by Michael Mitnick in its reigonal premiere. Directed by Ali el-Gasseir, Ed, Downloaded will play today, January 31 - February 24, 2014, running Thursdays through Mondays at 7:30. The Opening Night Reception is set for tonight, January 31st after the show.
