Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Presents Amy O' Neal's OPPOSING FORCES and A Tribute to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) presents Clas/sick Hip Hop, three evenings of hip hop dance and music with an energetic double bill now in its third iteration. The evening opens with Amy O'Neal's Opposing Forces, featuring breakdancing, dance battles, and intimate duets by five world-class B-Boys, followed by twelve unique Bay Area bands paying homage to Grammy award winner Lauryn Hill's critically acclaimed hip hop album with a night of covers and reinterpretations in UnderCover Presents: A Tribute to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Clas/sick Hip Hop aims to surface questions about the role of hip hop through music, movement, and the politics of freedom with an emphasis on gender norms. 

The Bessies Announce Recipients of the 2016 NY Dance and Performance Awards

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of the 2015-16 season award recipients tonight at the 32nd Annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Awards were presented in the categories of Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition/Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design, with additional awards presented for Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance. For 20 years, Velocity has gathered people on Capitol Hill around a common love of making, experiencing, experimenting and watching dance. But in recent years, since a new team came onboard after Velocity lost its home in the old Oddfellows Building, it's been on-fire: growing ticket sales 348% over four years, launching Seattle artists onto the national stage, and garnering attention from around the country for its visionary leadership as an artist-led, community centered dance center.

Super-charged Strictly Seattle performances feature seven new works by some of Seattle's most celebrated choreographers: 2015 Guggenheim Fellow Zoe Scofield, Pat Graney, Kate Wallich, Anna Conner, Shannon Stewart, Kaitlin McCarthy and Bryon Carr, plus new shorts from KT Niehoff's Dance Film Track at Broadway Performance Hall this weekend, July 24 + 25.

Join us as they return to Seattle to celebrate their 3rd anniversary at the venue where it all started: Velocity. mouth to mouth is a critically acclaimed contemporary dance piece created by Agami, former Batsheva dancer and Artistic Director of Ate9, with original music by Jodie Landau, merging “breathtaking physicality, sly humor, and a hip theatricality” (Dance Magazine).

Velocity Presents World Premiere of HOW TO BECOME A PARTISAN Tonight as Part of MADE IN SEATTLE

Velocity is proud to present the world premiere of How to become a partisan tonight, April 25, 2015 at Saint Mark's Cathedral. This five-hour immersive hybrid performance by Italian-American choreographer Alice Gosti, and in collaboration with Seattle composer Hanna Benn, is commissioned, developed and produced through Velocity's Made in Seattle new dance development program.

Relay Dance Collective to Present RDC3
