Asian Arts Initiative Kicks Off 2014 National Asian American Theater Conference Today

Asian Arts Initiative will serve as the host for the 4th National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival, presented by the Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Actors (CAATA) this October, bringing the event to Philadelphia for the first time. The Conference and Festival (ConFest) will feature a series of Asian American theater productions open to the general public and offer conference attendees a full schedule of professional development programming under the 2014 theme 'Home: Here? There? Where?' from today, Oct. 8-12, 2014.

Court Theatre & American Blues Theater Extend NATIVE SON

Due to early ticket demand, Court Theatre and American Blues Theater announce an extension to the world premiere of American Blues Ensemble Member Nambi E. Kelley's new adaptation of Richard Wright's classic novel, Native Son, directed by Seret Scott. Native Son will now run September 11 - October 19, 2014 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue.

Pan Asian Repertory Theatre to Present NUWORKS, 6/10-15

Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, led by Tisa Chang, Artistic Producing Director, continues its commitment to artists creating new work that explores different genres and techniques during an expanded NuWorks series, which runs June 10-15 at the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd Street). Curated by Angela Santillo and Ernest Abuba, this week-long offering features 9 artists presenting original short works, including dance, burlesque, and comedic and dramatic shorts over three programs, A, B and C:

Pan Asian Rep Presents NO NO BOY, Now thru 5/18

PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE will present a special limited run of NO-NO BOY by Ken Narasaki, directed by Ron Nakahara and based on the novel by John Okada, set in the aftermath of WWII as Japanese Americans return to the West Coast. Called 'eloquent...elegant and searing' by LA Weekly, NO-NO BOY will run from today, May 14-18, 2014 at the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street), with official opening on May 15 at 7:30PM.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre to Present Tony Kushner's 'THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE', Begin. 5/16

Berkeley Repertory Theatre welcomes back Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner for the West Coast premiere of his latest play, The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, an epic tale of love, family, sex, money, and politics. Kushner reunites with one of his favorite collaborators, Michael Leibert Artistic Director Tony Taccone, to bring this sweeping drama to the Roda Theatre. With his trademark mix of soaring intellect and searing emotion, the legendary writer unfurls a poignant story about an Italian family in Brooklyn. When retired longshoreman Gus Marcantonio decides to die, his kids come home with a raucous parade of lovers and spouses to find that even the house keeps secrets. A portrait of a dysfunctional family filled with weighty dialogue, humor, and passion, Kushner's four-act play previews Friday, May 16, opens on Wednesday, May 21, and runs through Sunday, June 29, 2014.

PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE continues its 37th Milestone Season with the New York premiere of FISHING FOR WIVES, a comic battle of the sexes written by Edward Sakamoto and directed by Ron Nakahara. The production will begin previews tonight, April 5, 2014 and run until April 27, 2014 at the Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd Street between 9th and Dyer). The official opening is on Thursday April 10th at 7:30PM.

Asheville Creative Arts Stages SCHOOLHOUSEROCK! LIVE Benefit Concert This Weekend

Co-Founders Abby Felder and Robbie Jaeger announce the continuation of Asheville Creative Arts' (ACA) 13/14 season with a concert of SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK! Live (this weekend, March 8 and 9 at the Asheville Masonic Temple) with proceeds to benefit their summer production of the musical version of EB White's classic, CHARLOTTE'S WEB (July 17-27 at NC Stage as part of the Catalyst Series).

Asheville Creative Arts' Mobile Unit Launches with SLUG AND SNAIL This Month

Building on the success of its inaugural production, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD, Co-Founders Abby Felder and Robbie Jaeger introduce Asheville Creative Arts' MOBILE UNIT, a touring arm that will bring the company's signature theatrical style directly into the community. This October, the MOBILE UNIT will premiere with SLUG AND SNAIL, a table-top puppet show created and performed by Co-Founder Abby Felder, which features dramaturgy by renowned Czech puppet artist Frantisek X Watzl, original music composed and performed by sound artist Andrew Phillips, and additional direction by Co-Founder, Robbie Jaeger, director and choreographer of the musical hit FROG AND TOAD.@
