St. Louis Shakespeare celebrates its 25th year presenting the finest classical theatre. The Company's 2009 season opens in July with THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, followed in August by TWELFTH NIGHT and MACBETH in October, at the Grandel Theatre in the Grand Center Arts District. In November, SLS returns with an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's TREASURE ISLAND, presented at the Missouri History Museum as part of their Performing Arts Series.

As playwright Matthew Lombardo continues to develop the upcoming Arena Stage production of Looped starring four-time Emmy Award-winning Valerie Harper (Rhoda on The Mary Tyler Moore Show) as Tallulah Bankhead, a casting change has taken place. Jay Goede, known for his work on Broadway in Angels in America, A Year with Frog and Toad and Sex and Longing, will now play opposite Harper in the pre-Broadway staging, directed by Rob Ruggiero at Arena Stage at the Lincoln Theatre May 29 through June 28, 2009. The American Theatre Wing has announced its newest episode of its popular 'Working in the Theater' series, titled 'Fluidity & Change: Directors 2009.' This episode features Thomas Kail (In the Heights), Moisés Kaufman (33 Variations) Bartlett Sher (Joe Turner's Come and Gone), Leigh Silverman (Coraline), and Kate Whoriskey (Ruined). The program, moderated by Variety reporter Gordon Cox, will air on CUNY Television beginning Sunday, May 31, at 5:00 pm, with additional airings Friday, June 5 at 9:00 am, 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 6 at 11:00 am, and Sunday, June 7 at 5:00 pm.

Al Pacino Set to Star in HBO's 'KERVORKIAN'

Variety reports that Al Pacino is set to star in the upcoming HBO film, 'Kervorkian' about right-to-die champion Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Barry Levinson is set to direct the film, which will revolve around Kervorkian's construction of his infamous 'Mercy Machine,' his first assisted suicide in the early 1990s and the resulting media frenzy.
