This summer, The Sherman Playhouse is proud to present SALOMÉ, the rarely-seen biblical drama by Oscar Wilde, arguably the greatest English Language playwright of the 19th Century. The production opens July 24 for a four-week run.

Earnest has five male characters: two in their 20s, and three in their 50s-60s. There are four female roles: two ages 18-25 and two in their 50s-60s. The auditions are cold readings from the script; a British accent is preferred. No parts are pre-cast. This production will be directed by Carol Strachan and produced by Terry Yates.

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE opens St. Louis Shakespeare's 25th anniversary season, directed by Jerry Vogel. MERCHANT runs July 17 through 26, 2009, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm, and Thursday at 7:30pm. At the Grandel Theatre, 3610 Grandel Square.

Variety reports that the stage adaptation of 'The Shawshank Redemption' that played at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre will get a West End run in the fall. Based on the Stephen King novella that also inspired the 1994 movie version of 'Shawshank', the plot centers on the friendship two men develop over their time as inmates in a notoriously tough prison.
