The Helen Merrill Playwriting Award Ceremony will be held Monday, September 26, 2011, 5:30pm - 7:30pm (Awards given at 6:15pm) at the Algonquin Hotel, 59 West 44th Street.

The American Repertory Theater/Moscow Art Theater Institute for Advanced Theater Training begins the 2011-2012 Season with Oni Faida Lampley's Tough Titty, directed by Benny Sato Ambush, and performed by the Institute Class of 2012. The production runs October 2, 21, 22, and 27 at 7:30pm at the A.R.T.'s Zero Church Street Performance Space, corner of Church Street and Mass. Ave, Harvard Square, Cambridge.

Directed by Chay Yew, the cast features Woolly Mammoth Company Member Jessica Frances Dukes and Jenna Sokolowski. Antebellum runs March 30 ? Loretta Greco has chosen Tough Titty to start off the new year, a dynamically theatrical and surprisingly funny odyssey through one woman's battle with breast cancer. Tough Titty, written by Oni Faida Lampley and directed by Robert O'Hara, marks the third play of Magic Theatre's 2008/09 season. In Tough Titty, when Angela's routine cannot keep breast cancer at bay, she must learn to face the disease, her family, and her community with equal doses of tenacity and humor. Richly emotional, Tough Titty is a boisterous exploration of one woman's willful search for grace.

Magic Theatre announced today that contributions totaling nearly $355,000 have been generated by its emergency fundraising appeal launched this past month. An additional $100,000 will be donated by a leading national supporter of the arts, which offered a matching grant to help secure the Magic's season. The campaign has thus far raised more than $450,000. 'The breadth and depth of support is incredible,' said Missy Kirchner, chairman of the Magic's board of directors. 'We've received more than 1,100 contributions from 23 states, ranging from $5.00 to $20,000. We needed $350,000 by January 12th to move forward with this season's productions and we made it.'

The Magic Theatre website has reported it has reached the needed fundraising goal, it will survive to bring theatre to the local San Francisco audience. Magic Theatre raised $450,000 in a little over a week due to the support of the many people who heard the theatre and its pleas for help.

The Magic Theater in San Francisco, a 42-year-old institution that has staged the premieres of works by Sam Shepard, David Mamet, Nilo Cruz and many others, may be on the verge of closing unless the company can raise $350,000 by Midnight, Monday January 12th. The theater's Web site, magictheatre.org is urging audience members to help it survive.
