Loretta Greco has chosen Tough Titty to start off the new year, a dynamically theatrical and surprisingly funny odyssey through one woman's battle with breast cancer. Tough Titty, written by Oni Faida Lampley and directed by Robert O'Hara, marks the third play of Magic Theatre's 2008/09 season. In Tough Titty, when Angela's routine cannot keep breast cancer at bay, she must learn to face the disease, her family, and her community with equal doses of tenacity and humor. Richly emotional, Tough Titty is a boisterous exploration of one woman's willful search for grace.
The Magic Theatre website has reported it has reached the needed fundraising goal, it will survive to bring theatre to the local San Francisco audience. Magic Theatre raised $450,000 in a little over a week due to the support of the many people who heard the theatre and its pleas for help.
The Magic Theater in San Francisco, a 42-year-old institution that has staged the premieres of works by Sam Shepard, David Mamet, Nilo Cruz and many others, may be on the verge of closing unless the company can raise $350,000 by Midnight, Monday January 12th. The theater's Web site, magictheatre.org is urging audience members to help it survive.
Launching a new winter tradition, Mud/Bone announces their first annual Holiday Print Show and Cabaret in Hunts Point starting on December 1. With two free cabaret performances by singer Marni Rice and prints by urban artists, Mud/Bone's artists invite the community to celebrate the season by sharing the gift of art in the South Bronx.
