Stratford Announces 2015 Season; 'SOUND OF MUSIC' and 'CAROUSEL' Confirmed

Stratford Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino has announced a season of Discovery for 2015 with 13 plays exploring eureka moments, whether they be scientific discoveries, creative accomplishments, the dawning of a deeper understanding of human nature or the epiphanies of self-knowledge. These themes, as they are reflected in art, science and our personal lives, will be further explored through more than 150 events at the Stratford Festival Forum. The 2015 season will also see a number of creative artists pursuing new work through the Stratford Festival Laboratory, Mr. Cimolino's centre for creative research and development, including adaptations of an early Urdu novel and a children's story, as well as a new approach to four of Shakespeare's history plays.

Fresh from the critical acclaim of An August Bank Holiday Lark, Northern Broadsides are set to take to road again this autumn to stage Oliver Goldsmith's much loved 18th century comedy of manners She Stoops To Conquer. The production will open at the Viaduct Theatre, Halifax from the 29 Aug to 6 September and then tour the UK until 13 December.

Emerging company Gameshow are developing a new work exploring human relationships to the universe, which will tour to Ovalhouse, Camden People's Theatre and The Yard in 2014. This is the Moon, That is the Earth, will play with the nature of live performance and spark debates on issues both infinitesimally small and impossibly large. Questioning the nature and meaning of the distance between audience and performer, the two-man production will prompt audience members to ask why they are watching - and what they get in return.

Quintessence Theatre Group launches its fourth season of progressive classic theatre with Shakespeare's HAMLET presented in rotating repertory with Goldmsmith's SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER, directed by Alexander Burns. Quintessence's celebrated full throttle actor and text driven approach to the classics will be further enhanced by an Elizabethan Courtyard style staging, complete with groundlings, and a fast and furious two hour abridgement of HAMLET. HAMLET will begin previews on Wednesday, October 9 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 12 at 8pm. SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER will begin previews on Thursday, October 17 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 26 at 8pm. The first play of Independent Shakespeare Co.'s season is....Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer or The Mistakes of the Night. It's not a play by Shakespeare, but it shares traits with Shakespeare's great comedies: eccentric characters, absurdly comic situations, and deep warmth. First performed in 1773, it was an immediate success.
