York Theatre Company to Present Developmental Reading of P.J. Barry's STORM Tonight

The York Theatre Company, and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, will present the new play Storm written and directed by P.J. Barry, and the new musical, God's Country with Book & Lyrics by Erik Johnke, and Music by Elaine Chelton at The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Pontine's Cafe-Lyceum Series to Continue with 'PRETTY HALCYON DAYS'

Pontine Theatre continues its 3-event Cafe-Lyceum Series with Pretty Halcyon Days: On the Beach with Ogden Nash. Pontine's Cafe-Lyceums feature refreshments and conversation along with scenes from one of Pontine Theatre's popular original plays based on New England literature. Pretty Halcyon Days is based on the life and work of "America's Master of Light Verse." Ogden Nash and his family spent their summers on Little Boar's Head, in North Hampton, NH. Using examples from Pontine's original staging of his poems, this program explores the ways in which Nash's life on the New Hampshire seashore influenced his poetry, lending insight into the man, his character, and his ideas about family, society, and nature.

Poems and stories, personal correspondence, and family photos, combine to illustrate how the 'New Hampshire experience' shaped the work of this seminal 20th century writer.

Events are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 4:oo and Sunday at 2:00. Tickets are $18 ($3 discount for seniors and students) and may be purchased at - www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to each performance (cash & checks only) based on availability. Pontine's West End Studio Theatre is located at 959 Islington Street, Portsmouth, NH. The theatre is not visible from the street. Look for the big 959 on the signpost at the head of the drive. Pontine's Cafe-Lyceum Series continues February 6-9 with Pretty Halcon Days: On the Beach with Ogden Nash; and concludes 13-16 March with Familiar Fields: The Power of Community in the Work of Sarah Orne Jewett.

Hosted by Ted Chapin, the evening will highlight songs from Venus as well as favorites from other Weill shows, including Street Scene, Lady in the Dark, Love Life, Lost in the Stars, Knickerbocker Holiday, The Threepenny Opera, and Happy End. The starry cast features Melissa Errico, Brent Barrett, Judy Blazer, and Ron Raines alongside Lotte Lenya Competition winners Richard Todd Adams, Douglas Carpenter, Cooper Grodin, Justin Hopkins, Zachary James, Analisa Leaming, Jacob Keith Watson, and Maren Weinberger. Weill specialist James Holmes, who conducted a fully staged production of Venus at England's Opera North in 2004, music directs, and Richard Jay-Alexander directs.
