BROADWAY SINGS BEYONCE Sets Cast for 11/7

The BROADWAY SINGS concert series will present its 13th installment with Broadway Sings Beyonce at the Highline Ballroom on November 7th at 8pm. A cast of 15 Broadway stars from shows such as Hamilton, Spring Awakening, and Waitress will sing completely new arrangements of the pop queen's greatest hits (including selections from her recent Lemonade album), accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations. Previous artists honored in the series include Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Sara Bareilles, Billy Joel, and Whitney Houston.

IVEY AWARDS: 2016 Minneapolis Honorees Announced

?The Twin Cities theater community honored Graydon Royce, long-time theater critic for the Star Tribune, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and costume designer Trevor Bowen with the Emerging Artist Award at the 12th annual Ivey Awards. The yearly celebration was held Monday, September 19, at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults Presents BURIALS, 10/8

Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) begins its 2016/17 season with The Burials, a world premiere by acclaimed playwright Caitlin Parrish, directed by Erica Weiss. Inspired by the enduring Greek tragedy, Antigone, the production explores the aftermath of a mass shooting and how one family and one community respond to the tragedy in unique ways. SYA curates numerous workshops, residencies and post-show events to engage both students and adults in the conversation. 

EgoPo Classic Theater Announces DELIRIUM

When a modern Irish playwright meets a Russian classic - all hell breaks loose. On October 28, EgoPo presents the Philadelphia premiere of Theatre O and Enda Walsh's raucous revisioning of The Brothers Karamazov. Through an explosion of light, sound and puppetry, this theatrical outburst of toxic masculinity will grab audiences by the throat. Three brothers are locked in an eternal family struggle with their abusive patriarch culminating in an epic theological battle. Delirium previews October 26-27 and opens Friday, October 28. The show runs three weeks, closing on Sunday, November 13. Tickets start at $25. Performances are at the Latvian Society Theater on 7th and Spring Garden.

Cincinnati Playhouse Brings August Wilson's JITNEY to Vibrant Life

JITNEY, the first script that August Wilson wrote for what would become his trailblazing American Century Cycle of 10 plays, will run in the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's Robert S. Marx Theatre Oct. 15 through Nov. 12.JITNEY beautifully explores Wilson's recurring themes of love, honor, duty and betrayal as it follows a group of men who operate an unlicensed car service in 1970s Pittsburgh.

TV Characters Come to Life in CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE Tour, Hitting Chicago Tonight

Broadway In Chicago, Stageworks Media and Troika Entertainment present the National Touring production of CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE. Based on the best and most memorable moments from the Emmy Award-winning classic hit TV series, CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE plays the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut) tonight, September 20, through October 23, 2016.

New Musical A DOG STORY to Bark Off-Broadway This Fall

A Dog Story, a new musical with music and lyrics by Gayla D. Morgan (Mary - A Musical) and book by Eric H. Weinberger (Class Mothers '68 starring Priscilla Lopez), will play off-Broadway at The Black Box at The Davenport Theater (354 W. 45th Street) beginning November 3rd with the official opening scheduled for November 17th. The show is produced by Seaglass Theatrical and co-produced by Waterfront Theatrics and Martha Robinson.

New Jersey Rep Presents MAD LOVE by Marisa Smith

Monday, September 19, 2016 - New Jersey Repertory Company, located at 179 Broadway in Long Branch, is proud to announce the new comedy MAD LOVE by Marisa Smith, the Author of 'Saving Kitty'. Sloane Hudson, a wealthy, beautiful recent Ivy League graduate and product of the campus hook-up culture and frat basement pong tournaments, doesn't believe in love or marriage. She does, however, believe in babies and wants one soon so her tummy can bounce back and she can still wear a bikini. The problem is she needs a sperm donor who passes muster. Enter Brandon, who has all the right stats, but the wrong attitude. Brandon, meantime, has enough on his plate living with his brother Doug, who just fell in love with Katerina, the hooker from the Ukraine. Cabbage soup, a rare baseball card and a lizard named Pogo all play a part in this romantic comedy for cynical times.

BMI Prevails Over DOJ in Consent Decree Dispute

Today, federal Judge Louis Stanton issued an order rejecting the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) recent interpretation of the BMI consent decree, and concluded that BMI is free to engage in the fractional licensing of musical works.  This decision immediately followed oral arguments heard today from both parties. Judge Stanton's ruling is now the controlling interpretation of the BMI consent decree, and a copy can be found HERE.

BWW Interview: Broadway's Kevin Covert Directs SPRING AWAKENING at Shenandoah Conservatory

Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia will be mounting the award-winning rock musical: SPRING AWAKENING this September, directed by Broadway veteran and new musical theatre program coordinator Kevin Covert. I was lucky enough to sit down with Kevin, hear about his experience at Shenandoah so far and learn about his process working on the rock musical with current theatre students.
