It was announced today that the world premiere production of Asking for It by Louise O'Neill will be performed on the Abbey stage next November. This much anticipated production is produced by Landmark Productions and the Everyman and co-commissioned by the Abbey Theatre. Conceived as a large-scale, technically ambitious production, it will be adapted for stage by Meadhbh McHugh in a collaboration with Annabelle Comyn, who also directs. The creative team also includes set designer Paul O'Mahony; lighting designer Sinead McKenna; sound designer Philip Stewart. Tickets for both venues are on sale now.
Capital Stage presents the Special Holiday Production and Sacramento Premiere of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. This instant holiday classic continues the story of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and has delighted audiences since its premiere in 2016. On Saturday, December 16 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., three vibrant New York City-based artists will perform in My City, My Song, an interactive Family Concert celebrating music from around the world. The performance features traditional and original Georgian folk songs from Ilusha Tsinadze, Freedom Songs of the Civil Rights Movement fromImani Uzuri, and original Haitian songs from Emeline Michel. Free pre-concert activities take place in Zankel Hall one hour prior to each performance.

The musical, The Book of Mormon, which lampoons both organized religion and traditional musical theatre, was conceived by Trey Parker, Matt Stone (creators of South Park), and Robert Lopez. This hysterically funny show is not for the faint of heart. While it comes with a parental advisory for explicit language, it should also come with a general caution to all for its possibly offensive representation of organized religion. However, as ridiculous and potentially offensive as some of this show may be, The Book of Mormon is a delectable guilty pleasure!

San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald today announced the eleven recipients of the 2018 Adler Fellowship. Eight singers, two pianist/apprentice coaches and one director will take part in the program. The multi-year performance-oriented residency offers advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Adler Fellows are selected from the artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program. The prestigious fellowship has nurtured the development of more than 175 young artists since its inception.
On Friday, October 20th, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey held its fall fundraising event Gin & Jazz at the Art Center, in Summit. The sold-out affair saw the Art Center transformed into a prohibition-era speakeasy, complete with hidden doorways and a jazz trio. Specialty cocktails were provided by Gold Sponsors Hendrick's Gin and Summit House, who also catered and designed the event. A combination of ticket sales, raffle entries, and live auction items raised more than $18,000 to benefit outreach initiatives and enrichment programs for the underserved.
