It was an exciting, interesting and surprising season in the Philadelphia/ South Jersey theater world. Here are some of my favorites picks with one additional New York entry worth remembering.

On Wednesday, December 18th, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Inc. (LDF) hosted a special fundraising event at 54 Below (254 W. 54th Street, NYC) as part of its 'Artists For Justice' initiative. Tony Award-Winning actress Tonya Pinkins, along with other celebrity guests, performed a cabaret concert to benefit LDF's mission. Tony Winner Tonya Pinkins will host a cabaret benefit for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, featuring Tony Winner Rupert Holmes and the cast of Broadway's A TIME TO KILL, as well as other celebrity guests, at 54 Below tonight, December 18th at 7 p.m.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will perform the world concert premiere of Macy's Yes, Virginia in Concert at 2 p.m. today, December 14, at Music Hall. The family-friendly performance is developed and presented by Macy's and will feature John Morris Russell conducting the Pops along with singers and actors in a semi-staged adaptation under the stage direction of Patrick Boyd. Headlining the cast for the world concert premiere are Broadway veterans Liz Callaway, performing the role of Miriam, and Norm Lewis, as Mr. Church.

Highlights this week include a HIT LIST concert at 54 Below, the 2013 Hammerstein Awards, the opening of A CHRISTMAS STORY, and more!
