Norm Lewis & Liz Callaway to Star in Cincinnati Pops' YES, VIRGINIA World Premiere Concert, 12/14

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will perform the world concert premiere of Macy's Yes, Virginia in Concert at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, at Music Hall. The family-friendly performance is developed and presented by Macy's and will feature John Morris Russell conducting the Pops along with singers and actors in a semi-staged adaptation under the stage direction of Patrick Boyd. Headlining the cast for the world concert premiere are Broadway veterans Liz Callaway, performing the role of Miriam, and Norm Lewis, as Mr. Church. The role of eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon will be performed by Gracie Alexander. This will be the world premiere performance of the fully orchestrated concert version of the musical with book and lyrics by William Schermerhorn and music by Wesley Whatley. "Yes, Virginia The Musical" was created by Macy's in 2012 as part of its annual holiday Believe campaign.

On Wednesday, December 18th, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Inc. (LDF)will host a special fundraising event at 54 Below (254 W. 54th Street, NYC) as part of its 'Artists For Justice' initiative. Tony Award-Winning actress Tonya Pinkins along with other celebrity guests, will perform a cabaret concert to benefit LDF's mission. The concert will feature the music of Tony Award-Winner Rupert Holmes, with performances by Sebastian Arcelus, Stephanie J. Block, Chuck Cooper, Bridgett Everett, Rupert Holmes, Norm Lewis, Patrick Page, Tonya Pinkins, John Procaccino, Steff Reed, and Tijuana Ricks.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced that a one-hour documentary about its American Voices festival, a weekend-long celebration of singing curated and hosted by Rene?e Fleming, will be broadcast nationally during a special presentation of THIRTEEN/WNET New York's Great Performances on PBS in 2014. In the documentary, camera crews will follow vocal masters, industry titans, and emerging artists as they gather at the Kennedy Center to celebrate, explore, and debate the legacy, landscape, and future of American singing. A precise airdate will be announced in the coming months.
