Bizet's Carmen will return to the Metropolitan Opera on November 4 in Richard Eyre's critically acclaimed production, featuring star mezzo-soprano El?na Garan?a as the alluring Gypsy seductress; rising tenor Brandon Jovanovich as her lover and victim, Don José; Nicole Cabell as the innocent Micaëla; and John Relyea, singing the toreador Escamillo for the first time at the Met. English National Opera Music Director Edward Gardner, who is making his Met debut, will conduct all Carmen performances this season.

NY Philharmonic Ends Run at Colorado's Bravo! Vail Music Festival, 7/30

The New York Philharmonic will return to Colorado's Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival for its eighth annual summer residency, for six concerts, July 23-30, 2010. Alan Gilbert will conduct three concerts in Vail at the conclusion of his first season as Music Director of the Philharmonic, leading works by Beethoven, Sibelius, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff. The Orchestra's residence will also feature appearances by conductors Andrey Boreyko and Bramwell Tovey, as well as soloists Jonathan Biss and Alexander Gavrylyuk, piano; Nikolaj Znaider, violin; New York Philharmonic Principal Cello Carter Brey; Nicole Cabell, soprano; and Branford Marsalis, saxophone. The New York Philharmonic has performed at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival each summer since 2003.

3 top talents selected by Nolen, Vroman and Berman to win Lotte Lenya Competition

Out of 230 contestants and 15 finalists - more participants than in any previous year - seven outstanding singer-actors rose to the top to win prizes in the 2010 Lotte Lenya Competition, held on April 17 at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Winners were selected by a team of distinguished musical theater experts: Broadway and opera stars Timothy Nolen and Lisa Vroman, and Rob Berman, Broadway and Encores! music director, who served as judges for the competition finals.

Nolen, Vroman and Berman Set To Judge 2010 Lotte Lenya Competition 4/17

Timothy Nolen (Phantom, Cyrano), Lisa Vroman (Phantom, Les Misérables), and Rob Berman (Broadway, regional, and Encores! Music Director) have been named judges for the 2010 Lotte Lenya Competition, an annual international competition that recognizes talented young singer-actors, aged 19-32, who are dramatically and musically convincing in a wide range of repertoire.
