JACK Presents THE PANELS, a New Play by OBIE-Winner Rick Burkhardt

OBIE-winner Rick Burkhardt (Three Pianos, The Great Hymn of Thanksgiving) conjures an America in which the government sends its teenagers to camps to undergo rigorous education in sexual experience. The Panels is a public discussion featuring campers and counselors sharing memories and dispelling myths around this successful (some would say controversial) public health initiative. By showing us what we aren't, Burkhardt - in the great tradition of Wallace Shawn, Caryl Churchill and others - shines a light on what we are, tickling at other possibility.

RICHARD MOVE/MOVEOPOLIS! to Open New York Live Arts' LIVE IDEAS 2017 Festival

Richard Move/MoveOpolis! opens New York Live Arts LIVE IDEAS 2017 festival with the world premiere of XXYY, a multilayered work conceived and directed by Move, with costumes by acclaimed theater artist Alba Clemente and an original score by Italian electronic music pioneer Martux_m.

Catskill's Bridge Street Theatre Presents Cellist Garfield Moore In Concert

???????Rostropovich, Piatigorsky, the great Casals himself. These are the names invoked by critics in attempting to describe the artistry of cellist Garfield Moore, appearing in an afternoon recital with pianist Hiroko Sakurazawa on Sunday April 2 at 2:00pm at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill.

Announcing The Gateway's 2017 Season!

The Choir of St. Luke in the Fields, under the direction of David Shuler, with Parthenia Viol Consort and Baroque in the Fields, an ensemble of period instruments, presents Music from the 17th century Salzburg Court, a program of music by H.I.F. Biber, on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 8 p.m. at the Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street. There will be a lecture by Dr. Sarah Davies at 7 p.m.

SOUVENIR Opens Bridge Street Theatre's 2017 Subscription Season

On October 25, 1944, wealthy (and tone-deaf) soprano Florence Foster Jenkins and her accompanist Cosme McMoon performed a recital at Carnegie Hall. Tickets sold out weeks in advance; an estimated 2,000 people were turned away at the door. The world of music has never quite recovered. Come share the hilarious and touching tale of this unlikely pair in the musical "Souvenir" at Catskill's Bridge Street Theatre March 16th through the 26th.

Robert Browning Associates presents Chicago Blues Legend & Recent Grammy Nominee LURRIE BELL

Lurrie Bell has been acclaimed for his intense guitar playing and passionate vocals which have made him a favorite at clubs and festivals around the world and earned him a reputation as one of the "leading lights" in the future of the blues.  Son of famed blues harmonica player Carey Bell, he has appeared on over 50 recordings either as leader or featured sideman and received numerous awards and honors, including Best Traditional Male Blues Artist in 2015 by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, and Most Outstanding Musician (Guitar) in 2016 by Living Blues magazine. In this program he will be joined by his band and include selections from his acclaimed Delmark albums, Blues in My Soul and the recent Grammy-nominated Can't Shake This Feeling. His band is composed of Willie "The Touch" Hayes (drums), Roosevelt Purifoy (keys), and Melvin Smith (bass).

Kitchen Theatre Company Welcomes New Artistic Director

M. Bevin O'Gara, award-winning director and associate producer of Boston's Huntington Theatre, has been named the new producing artistic director of Ithaca's Kitchen Theatre Company, effective July 1, 2017.

Alan Gilbert to Conduct NY Philharmonic in A CONCERT FOR UNITY With Musicians Around the World, 6/8-10

In the final subscription concerts of his tenure as Music Director, Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic joined by musicians from orchestras around the world in concerts celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. Those invited to participate include members of orchestras from Australia, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The program, taking place Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m., will include Mahler's Symphony No. 7. Special guest artists will include cellist Yo-Yo Ma, on June 8, and trumpet player Wynton Marsalis, on June 9.

High Line Presents Henry Taylor THE FLOATERS

 Presented by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art is pleased to announce a new High Line Commission by Los Angeles-based artist Henry Taylor. Titled the floaters, this large-scale mural will be hand-painted by a professional sign company on the wall of a building overlooking the High Line at West 22nd Street, and will be visible from the park as well as the street below.

All-Star SFJAZZ Collective Tribute to Miles Davis Concludes Miller Theatre's Jazz Series, 4/1

Some of the biggest names on the jazz circuit-including Miller audience favorites Warren Wolf and Miguel Zenon-come together to form the inimitable collective SFJAZZ. This touring program celebrates one of the genre's greats: Miles Davis. The band's explorations of this rich repertoire make it feel fresh once more, as revelatory and innovative as it sounded when Miles issued his first records back in the 1940s and 50s. 

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College presents Tenth Annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College commemorates Earth Day with its tenth annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 3pm. This interactive family event will take place on the plaza outside Whitman Theatre at Brooklyn College immediately following the 2pm presentation of Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale. Brooklyn Center's tenth annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration is free and open to the public, with no tickets or reservations required. Tickets to Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters are $15 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tue-Sat, 1pm-6pm). Both the performance and the Earth Day Celebration are recommended for ages four and up.
