Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts Celebrates Ella Fitzgerald with PATTI AUSTIN: ELLA NOW AND THEN

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 2016-17 season on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 8pm with GRAMMY® Award-winning jazz singer Patti Austin performing Ella Now and Then: A Centennial Celebration of the First Lady of Song. This tribute concert marks the 100th birthday of the great Ella Fitzgerald (born April 25, 1917) and will feature selections from Ms. Austin's 2002 album For Ella, including timeless standards such as 'How High the Moon,' 'Too Close for Comfort,' and 'The Man I Love.'Tickets range from $36 to $55 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling 718-951-4500 (Tue-Sat, 1pm-6pm).

The greater Binghamton area's longest running Equity theatre will kickoff its 11th season with a world premiere production, followed by the regional premiere of a musical featuring the music of John Denver, plus a classic comedy and finally a compelling drama about a quintessential American family caught in an unexpected situation. 

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Gets Back To Basics With Their Hit A CARDBOARD & DUCT TAPE SPECTACULAR

New York's very own alternative circus is back!  The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus returns to New York City's Connelly Theater (220 East 4th Street, NYC) with an extended run of their latest production, A Cardboard & Duct Tape Spectacular, after its successful  2016 premiere.  Bindlestiff's terrifically talented troupe of acrobats, aerialists, jugglers, sideshow marvels, vaudevillians, musicians, adhesion specialists and corrugated engineers will present twelve performances from May 4 - 14 and tickets are on sale now.

Talking Band's THE ROOM SINGS to Open Next Week at La MaMa

A room in a country house sings of those who have lived there over a span of seventy years. Performed with striking theatricality by the OBIE-award winning Talking Band, The Room Sings, uses an array of genres to tell the stories of four interlocking sets of people. As their individual stories unfold they intertwine and illuminate each other.

Met Box Office to Open Sunday

American Ballet Theatre's 2017 Spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 15-July 8, will feature the New York Premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's Whipped Cream and the Company Premiere of Ratmansky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher. Tickets for ABT's Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House go on sale at the box office on Sunday, March 26 at 12 Noon.

HFFNY 2017 Announces Addition of Films to its Program

Havana Film Festival NY (HFFNY) announces two new and hot releases coming from Chile and Uruguay to join the competition for the Havana Star Prize: Vida de Familia (Family Life), a 2017 Chilean drama directed by Alicia Scherson and Cristian Jimenez, which premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and El Candidato (The Candidate) by renown Uruguayan actor Daniel Hendler, who recently won Best Director at the Miami International Film Festival.

Roundabout Announces 2017 Artistic Plans

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) is thrilled to announce artistic plans for 2017, which welcome back a group of artists whom the theater has long respected, with new works, new roles and with a new playwright support initiative.

The New York Philharmonic Very Young People's Concerts Concludes 12th Season, 4/30

The New York Philharmonic Very Young People's Concerts (VYPCs), for children ages 3 to 6, will conclude its 12th season Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Monday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street. The program, titled “Woodwinds,” is the final of three installments in Philharmonic Families, the season's theme that presents an overview of the entire orchestra. The “Woodwinds” program will feature Philharmonic musicians performing selections from Rossini's La gazza ladra Overture and Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin as well as “This Violist Went Wandering,” set to the tune of “Once an Austrian Went Yodeling.” Hosted again by Philharmonic Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, the program will feature Philharmonic flutist Yoobin Son, Associate Principal Oboe Sherry Sylar, Acting Associate Principal Clarinet Pascual Martínez Forteza, guest bassoonist Harrison Miller, and horn player R. Allen Spanjer. Production designer Doug Fitch — with whom the Philharmonic has collaborated on several acclaimed staged productions, and who began his involvements in Philharmonic VYPCs in January 2017 — created artwork for the concert, which also features Philippe the Penguin, a character created for the series.

New Dance Alliance Announces 31st Annual Mix Festival, 6/8-11

New Dance Alliance is pleased to announce the lineup for the 31st annual Performance Mix Festival. “The most elaborate festival of the unpredictable” (The New York Times), the 2017 festival will feature works by 20 local and international dance artists, as well as Performance Mix's annual community breakfast, a dance party, and more.

Times Square Arts Presents Sound of Ikebana (Spring)

In partnership with the Japan Society Gallery, Times Square Arts presents artist and 2016 Japan Cultural Envoy Naoko Tosa's Sound of Ikebana (Spring) on Times Square's electronic billboards from 11:57 pm to midnight every night in April. This project is a part of Midnight Moment, a monthly presentation by The Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts.

The Joyce Theater Presents the NY Debut of Scotland's National Dance Co., Scottish Ballet, 4/11-16

Creative Time Announces New Public Artwork by Sophie Calle

Creative Time is pleased to announce the commission of 'Here Lie the Secrets of the Visitors of Green-Wood Cemetery”, a 25 year long new public artwork by the internationally renowned French conceptual artist Sophie Calle co-presented with Green-Wood Cemetery. The project will debut with a two daylong inaugural event on April 29th and 30th, 2017. The Artist will be present on April 29th and 30th from 12 – 5 PM.
