On Friday, February 7 at 5:30pm at The Players (16 Gramercy Park, New York, NY), Elements Theatre Company of Orleans, MA will present an original work, Labyrinth: A Legacy of Language, exploring Shakespeare's influence on playwrights through the past four and a half centuries, from Sheridan to Ibsen to Stoppard. The production will be a springboard for a 7:00pm discussion in the ARTS IN CONVERSATION panel series, on How Shakespeare Humanizes Our Culture: The Transforming Power of His Work. Panelists include George Drance, SJ, Artist in Residence at Fordham University, Louis Colaianni, author of How to Speak Shakespeare and Teacher/Coach, Rob Weinert-Kendt, Associate Editor at American Theatre, and Josh Cabat, Co-founder of the New York City Student Shakespeare Festival. The February broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Philharmonic in Beethoven's Fidelio Overture and Symphony No. 1; Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist; and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The following week, guest conductor Andrey Boreyko will lead the Philharmonic in a performance of Stravinsky's The Song of the Nightingale; Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, with Philharmonic Principal Bassoon Judith LeClair as soloist; and Zemlinsky's The Mermaid, Fantasy for Orchestra.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the West Coast premiere of Laura Marks's powerful new play Bethany. Directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, Bethany will run Jan. 25 - Feb. 23, 2014 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Jan. 25 - Jan. 29.

Yale's School of Architecture and School of Drama are teaming up this fall to present 'Stage Designs by Ming Cho Lee,' a retrospective of the award-winning designer and Yale professor's work in theater, opera, and dance. The Public Theater will begin previews for the Mobile Shakespeare Unit's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING on Monday, November 25. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and featuring choreography by Chase Brock, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING follows a three-week tour, bringing free Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts. The Shakespeare comedy will run at The Public Theater through Sunday, December 15, with an official press opening on Tuesday, December 3. All tickets are $20.
