BWW Interview: Olivier Nominee Tara Hugo Talks LEGACY FALLS at NYMF, New Philip Glass Album and More!

Today we're speaking with Tara Hugo, Olivier nominee for THE THREEPENNY OPERA at the Donmar Warehouse, star of JoAnne Akalaitis and Philip Glass' THE BACCHAE at the New York Shakespeare Festival, singer, lyricist and all-around talented actress. Hugo is reprising her 2010 London role in the new musical LEGACY FALLS, a soap opera farce currently playing through July 24th at this year's New York Musical Theatre Festival. Below, Hugo talks about starting fresh with a new cast, her favorite scene and takes a detour to discuss her new album of Philip Glass songs.

Steppenwolf's Annual 'First Look Repertory of New Work' to Kick Off 7/29

Performances begin in three weeks for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's upcoming eighth annual First Look Repertory of New Work, featuring three developmental productions of new plays presented in rotating repertory July 29 - August 25, 2013 in the Garage Theatre (1624 N Halsted St).

Deb Radloff Awarded Classic Stage Co's Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant

Classic Stage Company has announced that Deb Radloff, who appeared in the company's recent production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, is this year's recipient of the Rosemarie Tichler Fund grant. The Fund was established in 2010 with the mission to assist young actors who have appeared at CSC and who have recently made the transition from their training into the profession. The $3000 grant can be used by the young artist to continue training or to offset loans they may have incurred while studying their craft. With the grant, CSC hopes to make a difference in the lives of young actors at the start of their careers as well as to heighten awareness in the community to the specific needs of actors. The recipient was selected by a panel of judges which included Rosemarie Tichler, CSC Artistic Director Brian Kulick and CSC Casting Director James Calleri.

Compagnia de' Colombari's THE WORLD IS ROUND IS ROUND to Premiere at The Mill, 8/30

A playful, exuberant and musical adaptation of Gertrude Stein's existential, modernist children's book The World Is Round will be performed this summer at The Mill: Arts, Letters, and Numbers in Averill Park, New York (east of Albany). THE WORLD IS ROUND IS ROUND IS ROUND is a music-theater piece chronicling the adventures of a girl named Rose in her quest to get "there"-to the top of a mountain. It is adapted and directed by Karin Coonrod with music by Gina Leishman, who Time Out New York called "one of New York's most versatile composers." The work will premiere in August 2013 at The Mill before traveling to New York and other cities.

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA), under the artistic direction of Ben Donenberg, returns to The Japanese Garden on the grounds of the VA West Los Angeles Healthcare Center campus with a rollicking summer production of William Shakespeare's romantic comedy 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' with live music and directed by Royal Shakespeare Company artist Kenn Sabberton - beginning July 9, through July 28 only. 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is presented by SCLA in conjunction with VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. Scroll down for a first look at the cast in action!

Coastal Rep to Kick Off Summer Lineup with HAIR, 7/19-8/10

Coastal Repertory Theatre enters into the 'Age of Aquarius' with what the New York Times calls 'The Ultimate American Rock Musical', HAIR -- written by James Rado & Gerome Ragni and produced for the Broadway Stage by Michael Butler, originally produced by the New York Shakespeare Festival Theatre. This production is directed and choreographed by Joe Duffy with musical and vocal direction by Joseph Murphy. The show runs July 19, 2013 through August 10, 2013.

DEATHTRAP, THE ENGLISH BRIDE and More Set for Centenary Stage's 2013-14 Season

Magic, mystery, laughter, and three New York premieres are the highlights of the 2013-2014 season at The Centenary Stage Company in their fourth year at the David and Carol Lackland Center. This year will feature eight diverse theatre events in the Lackland Center in addition to the New York premieres.

Theater for the New City to Tour SANITATION, OR OFF THE GRID Throughout the Five Boroughs, 8/3-9/15

Theater for the New City's award-winning Street Theater Company opens its 37th annual tour August 3 with 'Sanitation, or Off the Grid,' a rip-roaring musical which will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds throughout the five boroughs through September 15. The production, free to all New Yorkers, will have book, lyrics and direction by Crystal Field and musical score composed by Joseph Vernon Banks. (Schedule follows at bottom of this document.)

Getty Museum and CNP Present PROMETHEUS BOUND, 8/29

This September, the Getty Museum and CalArts' Center for New Performance (CNP), in association with Trans Arts, will presentPrometheus Bound, the eighth annual outdoor theater production in the Getty Villa's Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater. Featuring a newly-translated text by noted poet and essayist Joel Agee, Prometheus Bound will be directed by Travis Preston, artistic director of CNP and dean of the CalArts School of Theater, and include original music by composer Ellen Reid and celebrated jazz multi-instrumentalist Vinny Golia (who will also perform live onstage).

Chad Kimball to Star in Retrop Productions' JULIAN PO at NYMF, 7/8-14

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Retrop Productions will present JULIAN PO, a new musical with book and lyrics by Andrew Barrett and music by Ira Antelis, from July 8 to 14, 2013. JULIAN PO, which mixes comedy and drama, opens in New York after a critically-acclaimed, sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was nominated for "Best Book of a Musical." JULIAN PO, based on the book La mort de monsieur Golouja by Branimir Š?epanovi? and the screenplay "Julian Po" by Alan Wade, features elements of pop, rock, country, bluegrass and gospel. JULIAN PO is an official selection of The New York Musical Theatre Festival's "2013 Next Link Project." The show is directed by Kirsten Sanderson with music direction by Mark Hartman.

Winner of the 2011 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, Roundabout Theatre Company's Anything Goes sails direct from Broadway under the direction of Kathleen Marshall, who won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Choreography. The production features music and lyrics by Cole Porter; original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse; and new book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.
