TRUTH illuminates the dynamic life and legacy of Sojourner Truth, a complicated, brilliant woman who escaped slavery to become an African-American abolitionist, women's rights activist and a relentless and articulate champion for freedom and justice. The fourth opera by composer Paula M. Kimper (Patience & Sarah), stars soprano Mari-Yan Pringle as Truth, and the ensemble of five singers and seven-piece orchestra conducted by the composer brings to life this American heroine of extraordinary scope in this chamber version of the opera. The performances take place at Theatre 80, 80 St. Marks Place between 1st and 2nd Avenues on Friday, August 9 at 3:00 p.m.; Monday, August 12 at 4:15 p.m.; Friday, August 16 at 7:45 p.m.; Saturday, August 17 at 9:15pm; and Sunday, August 25 at 5:45 p.m. (No late seating.)
