Denyce Graves Withdraws from CARMEN

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Opera New Jersey and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) announce that mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves has withdrawn from her Carmen engagements due to a direct order from her doctor to rest her vocal cords for six to eight weeks.

Elaine Paige Responds: Compliments Boyle and Claims Remarks were 'Misinterpreted'

In the wake of the media storm that has ensued as a result of comments run in the U.K. Daily Mail in which Elaine Paige - famous for her performances in EVITA and CATS in the West End - states that Susan Boyle was a 'virus,' Paige has just released the following statement to clarify her comments, which she asserts, were grossly misinterpreted and skewed. The pair had recently sung a duet together for an ITV special.

Elaine Paige Claims that 'Susan Boyle is a Virus'

Elaine Paige had some choice words for international singing sensation and former duet partner Susan Boyle this week according the the UK Daily Mail. Paige, who is famous for her performances in EVITA and CATS in the West End, stated that '[Boyle] was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.'

Long Beach Opera Presents THE GOOD SOLDIER SCHWEIK, 1/30

Long Beach Opera's first performance of the 2010 season, The Good Soldier Schweik, will make it's final appearance in Santa Monica on January 30th. The production is direced and choreographed by Ken Roht and conducted by Austrian native, Andreas Mitisek. Know Theatre Presents 'Adding Machine: A Musical', 2/13-3/6

Know Theatre of Cincinnati is pleased to announce its third production of the season, Adding Machine: A Musical, with original music by Joshua Schmidt and libretto by Jason Loewith & Joshua Schmidt based on the play The Adding Machine by Elmer Rice. Adding Machine: A Musical will open on Know Theatre's mainstage February 13 and play through March 6, 2010. Michael Burnham will direct the production and Alan Patrick Kenny is the Musical Director. PLEASE NOTE: the dates have changed from the original production announcement. The opening has been pushed back one week from February 6 to February 13, 2010.

Laurie Rubin to Appear in Concert, 2/28

Celebrated mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin, a native of Encino and now a full-time resident of New York City, will return home to California on February 28 to perform a program of works by Mozart, Rodrigo, Gershwin, Sondheim, Schwartz, and Sivan, among others. The evening will also feature special guest artists. Set to benefit the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind,?? the concert will be held at Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School of Music, and the curtain goes up at 7:30pm.
