Second Stage Theater's LET ME DOWN EASY Extends Through 12/6

Second Stage Theatre is pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed production of Anna Deavere Smith's LET ME DOWN EASY, has extended four weeks, through December 6. Conceived, written, and performed by Ms. Smith and directed by Leonard Foglia, LET ME DOWN EASY opened on Wednesday, October 7 and was originally scheduled to run through November 8.

Conrad Cumming’s New Opera THE GOLDEN GATE to Receive Staged Workshop at Lincoln Center with All-Star Cast, 1/16-1/17

AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) and LivelyWorks present a workshop production of The Golden Gate, an opera in two acts with music by Conrad Cummings and libretto from the novel-in-verse by Vikram Seth adapted by the composer. The performances, on Saturday January 16 and Sunday January 17, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. will take place at the Rose Studio, 10th Floor of the Rose Building (next door to The Juilliard School, enter on 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue).

SDC Announces Garry Hynes And Martha Clarke As Winners Of 2009 Calloway Awards

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation has announced that the winners of the 2009 Joe A. Callaway Awards for excellence in the crafts of directing and choreography are director Garry Hynes for The Cripple of Inishmaan and choreographer Martha Clarke for Garden of Earthly Delights.

Directors Garry Hynes and Martha Clarke were the 2009 recipients of the Joe A. Callaway Award, honoring excellence in direction and choreography in non-Broadway productions in New York. Hynes won for his production of THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN and Clarke for choreography of GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS. The honors were bestowed earlier this month.

David Pittsinger and Carmen Cusack to Star in Chicago Engagement of SOUTH PACIFIC, 11/24 - 11/29

Bob Boyett and NETworks Presentations announce casting for the Chicago area engagement of the National Tour of The Lincoln Center Theater Production of Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein's prize-winning musical SOUTH PACIFIC, directed by Bartlett Sher. The Tony Award-winning production will play the Rosemont Theatre for a limited one-week engagement Nov. 24 - 29, 2009.

Orange County's Pacific Symphony presents HANDEL'S MESSIAH, 12/13

'Handel's Messiah,' performed by Pacific Symphony, is perhaps the perfect way take refuge from the hectic pace of the holidays and celebrate the season in a serene and meaningful way. This year, the most famous oratorio in the world is led by British guest conductor William Lacey and features the Pacific Chorale and four seasoned veterans of the opera and solo stages-soprano Christine Brandes, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Batton, tenor Benjamin Butterfield and baritone Timothy Mix-singing some of the most beautiful music ever written. Taking place on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m., in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, the Symphony's annual performance-the first of several holiday concerts-includes blazing trumpets, thundering timpani, the exhilarating 'Hallelujah' chorus, and a message of hope in a year of tribulations.

Anna Deavere Smith's LET ME DOWN EASY Gets Second Extension Thru 1/3

Due to popular demand, the critically acclaimed production of Anna Deavere Smith's LET ME DOWN EASY, now playing at Second Stage Theatre, has extended a second time and will now close on January 3, 2010. The show, which is currently extended through December 6, will not be performed December 14 - 20 due to Smith's previous commitment to perform Hymn with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at City Center.

Lincoln Center's new civic space and urban arts facility, the David Rubenstein Atrium, officially opened today, Thursday, November 19. In celebration of this much anticipated opening, the organization hosted an all day community event with the help of Broadway legend Bernadette Peters that featured free music and dance performances, leading up to the inaugural Target Free Thursday performance, Sexteto Roderiguez and the Cuban-Jewish All Stars at 8:30pm.
