Featuring a Tony Award-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, opened to rave reviews on April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th St), where it's played 835 performances for over a million people... and counting! Signal Ensemble Theatre presents the Chicago premiere of The Drowning Girls by Beth Graham, Daniela Vlaskalic and Charlie Tomlinson and directed by Signal Ensemble Member Melanie Keller at Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 W. Berenice Ave., April 30 - June 6. Previews are Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m. Opening/Press night is Saturday, May 2 at 8 p.m. Regular performances are Thursday - Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are $23 for single tickets, $15 for industry/students/seniors/groups and $12 for previews. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's (LACO) Principal Cello Andrew Shulman hosts and performs works by Bach, Marcello, Sammartini, De Fesch and Vivaldi in a Baroque Conversations program illuminating a rich array of Baroque cello sonatas tonight, March 26, 2015, 7 pm, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Shulman, joined by LACO artists Trevor Handy, cello, and Principal Keyboard Patricia Mabee, harpsichord, is featured on Sammartini's Sonata in G major for Cello and Continuo, Op. 4, No. 6; Marcello's Sonata in A minor for Cello and Continuo, Op. 2, No. 3; Vivaldi's Sonata in B-flat major for Cello and Continuo, RV 46; De Fesch's Sonata in A minor for Cello and Continuo, Op. 1b, No. 5; and Bach's Sonata in G major for Viola da Gamba and Continuo, BWV 1027. Stoneham Theatre has announced its production of the critically-acclaimed dark comedy Neville's Island, by the multi-award-winning writer of Calendar Girls, Tim Firth. Performances run from April 9-26, 2015. Neville's Island premiered in 1992 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in North Yorkshire, UK. In 1995, it was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy and won Best Play MEN Awards in 2006. It received its North American Premiere in New Mexico at Santa Fe Stages in 1996. Neville's Island was adapted for television in 1998, airing as a TV movie on the UK's ITV. Directed by Stoneham Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Weylin Symes, Neville's Island features an impressive island set, complete with water and a climbable tree, by Scenic Designer Chris Ostrom.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced a major new musical commission. Based on the spell-binding novel by Anne Rice, Cry to Heaven is a dramatic new musical with music and lyrics by three-time Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Matthew Wilder and a book by Roy Freirich and Debrah Neal. The show will be developed through The 5th Avenue's New Works Program focusing on early stage cultivation of new musicals, one of seven musicals in various stages of development.
