The Secret Garden has book & lyrics by Marsha Norman, music by Lucy Simon, and is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The production runs now through May 28, 2017 at the Stage Theatre at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The DCPA Theatre Company announced today that due to popular demand, they have added an additional performance of The Secret Garden on Sunday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. The performance will benefit the DCPA's student matinee program.  

Alistair Beaton has solid form as a political satirist as writer on Spitting Image and author of The Trial of Tony Blair. In Fracked! he turns his hand to the political hot potato of drilling for shale gas in the sedate countryside village of Fenstock. It is a story pitting the malign forces of corporate company Deerland Energy against the virtues of the reasonable and just campaign against them, spearheading by protesting pensioner Elizabeth Blackwood.

With an eye towards 2020, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, award-winning pianist Yael Weiss has embarked upon 'A Beethoven Odyssey,' a project that combines the complete set of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas with newly commissioned compositions related to them.

Casting is announced today for Music Theatre Wichita 46th Season, 'Hollywood to Broadway,' featuring five lavish stage musicals inspired by films, including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Hairspray, and the Kansas premieres of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Disney's Newsies.

Way back in 1991 a young fledgling theater geek saw a performance from the new musical "The Secret Garden" by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon on the Tony awards and he became obsessed with it. He listened to the cast album over and over and fell completely in love with it when he saw the first national tour as it came through town. That young theater geek was, of course, me. And since then the show has managed to work its way into being one of my all-time favorites. I've seen several productions over the years, some good and some not so good. I've even been fortunate enough to be a part of a production. So you'll understand, Dear Readers, that I'm quite picky about this show. Well there's a new reworked version of the show currently playing at the 5th Avenue Theatre and the best thing I can say for it is that there's a lot of talent up on that stage. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of missteps including the rework that does nothing to improve the already wonderful show. If fact it saps much of the heart in favor of making it shorter.

Legendary New Orleans soul singer Aaron Neville will headline the second annual WFUV High Line Bash on Friday, May 12, from 7-11 p.m.at Milk Studios, 450 West 15th Street in Chelsea. The moveable feast of music and food will also include performances in three beautiful loft spaces at Milk Studios by The Hold Steady leader and solo artist Craig Finn, singer-songwriter and visual artist Joseph Arthur, the jazz-inflected vocal group, The Hot Sardines, and country-rock singer Nikki Lane.
