FLASH SPECIAL: S'Romantic! Top Ten Gershwin Love Songs

As enticing as a Valentine's Day bouquet, as delectable as a box of chocolates and as heartwarming as a kiss from your betrothed, today we are honoring one of Broadway's most romantic musicals - absolutely perfect to take in on a big date-night like tonight, no doubt - NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, as well as the sumptuous, sonorous songs of George & Ira Gershwin - those featured within it and far beyond. "S'Wonderful" to "Someone To Watch Over Me" to "An American In Paris", "Rhapsody In Blue" and more, this clip collection is the ideal way to fall under the spell of Cupid's arrow and enjoy Broadway songwriting at its very best.

FLASH SPECIAL: We Can CAN-CAN Again! A Parisian Cole Porter Celebration

With news coming late this week of a revised and reworked edition of the Cole Porter/Abe Burrows Golden Age musical CAN-CAN aiming for a reading in October and the possibility of a potential major production thereafter, now seems like a tres bien moment in time to glance back at the underappreciated charms of this alluring, Paris-set show. Plus, from Gwen Verdon, Patti LuPone, Eartha Kitt, Shirley MacLaine and Chita Rivera to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Kelly Clarkson, MAD MEN's Christina Hendricks and many more, this clip collection has more than just an errant bright bulb or two to add to the already magnificent and romantic sights of the city of lights.

BWW Reviews: Henry Prego's Stimulating Tribute to Frank Sinatra at the Encore Dinner Theatre

Handsome singer Henry Prego, who is revered internationally for his tribute to Frank Sinatra, has brought his 'Live from the Sands' nostalgic show to the Encore Dinner Theatre through December 1. It is wrong to label Prego an impersonator. First of all, he is not an artist in drag, but a male singer singing in his own great voice and he is not doing a parody of the iconic Sinatra. He is rather, as he calls himself, an ambassador of the Chairman of the Board's music. Blue-eyed, with big ears and with the stance and mannerisms Sinatra is best remembered for, Prego, particularly when he looks up or down, does resemble 'ole blue eyes. Sinatra was cool and smooth, so is Prego. He had a quiet but pal friendly manner with the band, so does Prego. Let's stop the comparisons. Prego is a fine singer period who immortalizes the Sinatra Songbook.

BWW Reviews: Karen Volpe's CD DINNER IN A FANCY DRESS

Actress/singer Karen Volpe has her own CD at long last called Dinner and a fancy dress. This is an album of all new pop country tunes written by Chuck Pelletier. Volpe's first association with Pelletier was his college musical The Green Room, which has received productions internationally from LA to Ireland. Volpe sang one of the most popular songs in the musical 'It's All About Me'; in fact, she recorded it. And displaying her versatile talent in such other musicals as Funny Girl, The Pajama Game, Oklahoma and GCT's next show Little Shop of Horrors, she has established herself as one of the leading musical actresses to beat, in and around LA.

BWW Reviews: Robyn Spangler Sparkles in Linda Ronstadt Tribute Show at Metropolitan Room

During her recent two-night run at the Metropolitan Room (July 11, 12), Los Angeles-based nightclub singer and actress Robyn Spangler gingerly walked the tribute show tightrope and made it to the other side intact. Her show 'Why I Love Linda Ronstadt' - which earned her a 2011 BroadwayWorld.com honor as L.A.'s 'Best Female Cabaret Artist - was an honest and heartfelt homage to her singing heroine. Her Ronstadt show hit almost all the right tribute notes, with solid arrangements from her Musical Director/Pianist Todd Schroeder (who also provided nifty backup vocals) that were reverential without being replications.

BWW Award Winner Robyn Spangler Brings Linda Ronstadt Back to the Gardenia

On Friday June 22, Robyn Spangler brought back her revered show in honor of Linda Ronstadt - Why I Love Linda Ronstadt - to the Gardenia for one night only. After reviewing the CD last November, I was more than impressed with Spangler's talent and easy listening vocal quality. But what she gave me in person as a performer far surpassed my imaginings! Accessible, friendly with an aura of poise and self-confidence, Spangler is a vibrant night club singer who fully engages and entertains her audience. I had such a good time, when the hour was over, I wanted to cry out for more...more Nelson Riddle, more Gilbert and Sullivan! Leaving an audience wanting more is a sign of a truly great cabaret artist, and Robyn Spangler fills the bill.
