MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Coming to MPAC, 6/10

The national tour of the Broadway musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, inspired by the electrifying true story, returns to Mayo Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, June 10 at 8 pm. Tickets are $49-79.

Usdan Opens Student Exhibit in NYC Today

The work of 23 visual arts students from Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally renowned summer arts day camp, will be exhibited today, May 7, through May 25 at the 7th floor gallery of the UJA-Federation at 130 East 59th Street (between Park-Lexington Avenues). The show, titled On Hope and Humankind, will feature painting, drawing, sculpture and multi-media work. It is the third and final exhibit in the largest series of off-site exhibits ever shown by the Long Island center, which for several years has displayed the work of its visual arts students on Long Island and New York City. The artists to be displayed were ages 10-18 when the works were created during the 2014 (the information included below are their current ages) season.

Tickets for the seventh annual NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS (NHSMTA)/JIMMY AWARDS will go on sale tomorrow, Friday, May 1 at 10:00AM. Tickets can be purchased by visiting NHSMTA.COM or TICKETMASTER.COM and range from $39 to $79. The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, June 29th at 7:30PM at the Minskoff Theatre, 200 West 45th Street in Manhattan.

The Jeff Awards stir things up, 'Louis & Keely' and 'Sounds So Sweet' evoke mid-century entertainment, Waa-Mu takes on the Berlin Olympics, a new Chicago-based revue in Edgewater, 'Chaperone' and 'Music Man' in the suburbs, 'The Boy From Oz' in a local production, 'Matilda' will tour, 'Amazing Grace' sets a Broadway run, and Circle Theatre re-emerges. Whew!

STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 4/29/15- RENT

Today in 1996, Rent opened at the Nederlander Theatre, where it ran for 5123 performances. Rent is a rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.On Broadway, Rent gained critical acclaim and won a Tony Award for Best Musical among other awards. The Broadway production closed on September 7, 2008 after a 12-year run.

Ari Brand, Molly Ephraim and Raviv Ullman to Star in BAD JEWS at Geffen Playhouse

Geffen Playhouse announces Ari Brand (Broadway The Neil Simon Plays; Off-Broadway My Name is Asher Lev), Molly Ephraim (ABC's Last Man Standing, Broadway Into the Woods, Fiddler on the Roof; film Paranormal Activity), Lili Fuller (Hulu's Complete Works) and Raviv Ullman (Off-Broadway Sticks and Bones, title character in Disney's Phil of the Future) as the cast for its West Coast premiere production of Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon, directed by Matt Shakman, who is the artistic director of the Black Dahlia Theatre, a Geffen playhouse alumni (Good People, Wait Until Dark) and a noted television director (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mad Men).

KINKY BOOTS National Tour Plays the Kimmel Center, Now thru 5/10

Kinky Boots, the smash-hit musical that brings together four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Tony Award-winner for Best Score for Kinky Boots), opens for a two-week engagement at the Forrest Theatre tonight, April 28 - May 10, as part of Broadway Philadelphia, presented collaboratively by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Shubert Organization. The press opening is Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.

High Schools Across Houston Join to Celebrate Excellence in Musical Theatre At 2015 TOMMY TUNE AWARDS - All The Winners!

While the sky may have been a little cloudy, the stars were shining bright at The Hobby Center as Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) celebrated the 13th Annual Tommy Tune Awards showcasing Houston's extraordinary and remarkable high school musical theatre talent. Sarofim Hall was practically filled to the brim, with over 400+ students, their directors and choreographers, and parents and friends. The nerves and excitement could hardly be ignored, as everyone sat in anticipation for the show to start. As Caroline Timm, Assistant Manager of PR & Marketing put it, 'this show is like the Tonys for these kids.' As the lights went down, the entire room burst out in applause and cheers, which would stop only momentarily throughout the night.
