Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the launch of online classes from its Theater School. Classes designed for students ages 5 and up will be delivered weekly starting April 13th and will feature the same instructors and lessons utilized in our in-person classes. Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the cancelation of the 2020 Rising Star Awards. Paper Mill will instead host a virtual celebration honoring the passion and talent of New Jersey high school students, many of whom were unable to perform their high school musicals due to the current COVID-19 health crisis.

Leah Ryan's Fund For Emerging Women Writers celebrates ten years of awarding it's prize to women playwrights with 10 X 10: An Evening of 10 Minute Plays Celebrating Ten Years of Winners. Village Theatre kicks off the next series of Beta Productions with XY, a new musical written by Oliver Houser and developed and directed by Hunter Bird that runs at Village Theatre's First Stage Theatre in Issaquah from February 14 - 23, 2020. The production marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration between Village Theatre and Seattle Rep, who will continue development of the show in a future season.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) has announced the ninth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. The Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation has announced that is has been awarded an Art Works grant of $10,000 for the development of the film-to-musical adaptation of Mr. Holland's Opus by Tony-winning theatre, television, and movie actor BD Wong, as part of the theatre's New Works Program. Art Works is the Arts Endowment's principal grantmaking program. National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. The agency received 1,592 Art Works applications for this round of grantmaking, and has awarded 977 grants in this category.

The Muny announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for its 2020 season, which opens June 15 with Kander and Ebb's internationally-acclaimed Chicago. Among the talented list are a mix of Muny favorites and newcomers. In addition to casting, a comprehensive list of design teams for each production will be released later this spring. Telsey + Company is the official casting partner for Muny.

The 4th annual Florida Festival of New Musicals is well underway at The Winter Park Playhouse. Forty (40) submissions were accepted from writers and composers both nationally and internationally between July and September 2019, which was up from the 29 musicals tendered the year before. The Playhouse has steadily increased its submissions every year since the Festival's inception in 2017, which is an indicator of the Florida Festival of New Musicals growing strength and reputation.
