Due to popular demand, Steppenwolf Theatre Company extends its critically acclaimed world premiere production of Downstate by Pulitzer Prize-winning ensemble member Bruce Norris, directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon. A co-commission and co-production with the National Theatre of Great Britain, Downstate  transfers to London in spring 2019 and features an American and British cast and creative team.  In a ? ? ? ? (out of 4) star review, The Chicago Tribune calls the play, "a must-see…one of the more incendiary and thus important productions in the illustrious history of the Steppenwolf" and The New York Times makes Downstate a Critic's Pick, calling it "a great, squirmy moral-thrill-ride of a play."

 Steppenwolf Theatre Company opens its 43rd season with a fiery, provocative new work from Pulitzer Prize-winning ensemble member Bruce Norris, directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon. Downstate is a co-commission and co-production with the National Theatre of Great Britain. This exciting collaboration will premiere at Steppenwolf in fall 2018 and transfer to the National Theatre in spring 2019 featuring an American and British cast and creative team. Previews begin September 20, 2018, opening is September 30 at 6pmand the production runs through November 11, 2018 in the Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N Halsted St. Single tickets ($20-$99) are now on sale through Audience Services at 312-335-1650 or steppenwolf.org.

Jackalope Theatre Announces 2018-19 Season

Jackalope Theatre Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gus Menary and Managing Director Nora Leahy, announces its 2018/19 season. The company's 11th season features two world-premiere productions and a Midwest-Premiere. The season begins with the world premiere of In The Canyon by Jackalope Theatre company member Calamity West, directed by Elly Green, then continues with the midwest premiere of Dutch Masters by Greg Keller, directed by Wardell Julius Clark, and concludes with the world premiere of Life On Paper by Kenneth Lin, directed by Jackalope Artistic Director, Gus Menary.

HINTER Extends Through March 17

With its original run almost sold out, Steep Theatre has added eight more performances of Calamity West's Hinter. Called 'taut, complex and a bloody good time" by Alex Huntsberger of TimeOut Chicago, this thrilling new play has enthralled audiences and critics alike. Hinter will run through Saturday, March 17.

Steep Theatre presents the world-premiere of Calamity West's new play, HINTER. The play was inspired by the Bavarian Hinterkaifeck murders, where six members of one household were brutally murdered in 1922. The case was never solved. HINTER delves into that mystery and attempts to piece together what may have really happened on that fateful night. HINTER opened on January 25th and will run through March 3rd.

Company Member Brad DeFabo Akin returns to Steep to direct the world premiere of Calamity West's Hinter, which was commissioned by Steep Theatre. West has quickly emerged as an important Chicago playwright, with recent acclaimed productions of her works Rolling (Jackalope Theatre) and Give It All Back (Sideshow Theatre). Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune dubbed West 'the real deal' and 'one of this city's most exciting new voices.' DeFabo Akin has delivered notable Steep productions including strangers, babies, Book of Days, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and 2016's The Few.
