On this day in 1998, Roundabout's sumptuous revival of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret opened on Broadway starring Alan Cumming and Natasha Richardson.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, O'Neill's classic is a surprisingly contemporary play that crackles with fierce physicality, humor, and drama. After a 20-year separation, a coal barge captain (Lyric Stage favorite Johnny Lee Davenport) is reunited with the daughter he unknowingly abandoned to a life of hardship. When Anna falls in love with a shipwrecked sailor, her father and her suitor come to recognize their own culpability in her plight, and all three struggle in their own way for salvation. Following his acclaimed production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Scott Edmiston takes a fresh look at one of America's greatest playwrights.

Kicking off the Park Avenue Armory's 2018 Season, director and playwright Simon Stone brings his heart-wrenching, Olivier Award-wining reinterpretation of Federico Garc a Lorca's 1934 play Yerma to the Wade Thompson Drill Hall. The production stars actress Billie Piper who will reprise the role for which she won the 2017 Olivier Award and the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2016.

This evening at London's Evening Standard Awards, two-time Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson won the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress for her performance in King Lear. Next spring, Ms. Jackson returns to Broadway in Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning Three Tall Women which will play the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street).

The winners of the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards in association with Qatar Airways have been announced at a ceremony at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Evening Standard has revealed its shortlist for the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2017. There are now three stars competing for each award. The ceremony will be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, on Sunday, December 3. The awards will be co-hosted by Evgeny Lebedev, Dame Anna Wintour, Cate Blachett, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Director Mark Redfield (the indie films COLD HARBOR, THE DEATH OF POE, DR JEKYLL & MR HYDE) adapts and directs this new production of Eugene O'Neill's ANNA CHRISTIE.

On Wednesday, September 15th, 2010, the Broadway community gathered alongside Stephen Sondheim as the lights of the newly dedicated Stephen SondheimTheatre marquee are lit for the first time.

Alan Pally, an authority on Tony and Academy Award-winning British playwright Peter Shaffer ("Amadeus," "Equus"), will be guest speaker at the Playhouse's Sunday Symposium following the Sunday, June 4, 3 p.m. matinee performance of Shaffer's comedy "Lettice and Lovage."

As I've stated before, theater should speak to people. This production of Cabaret spoke volumes to me and feels particularly poignant in today's political climate.
