It was an incredible night for Toronto theatre when our community joined together to celebrate another year of performing arts in Toronto on the evening of June 23rd at the WestJet Stage at the Harbourfront Centre for the 35th Annual Dora Awards! For the 2013-2014 season, 143 producing companies (up 41 from last season's 102) registered eligible productions. A total of 48 Dora Awards, plus the Silver Ticket Award and the Audience Choice Award, were given out in a glittering ceremony hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus, founding Co-Artistic Directors of the three-time Canadian Comedy Award-winning The National Theatre of the World.

Smoot, a.k.a John Turner from the infamous horror clown duo, Mump + Smoot, has found himself in a spot. The beloved clown performer and teacher lost his home on Manitoulin Island in a fire earlier this year, and the Toronto theatre, comedy and clown community are putting on a show to re-raise his roof!

The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced the date, creative team and an exciting new venue for the 35th anniversary of the Dora Mavor Moore Awards which celebrate extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts. The award ceremony will take place on June 23 and, for the very first time, will be held at Harbourfront Centre. The new outdoor venue will offer additional seating for this consistently sold-out event under the stars at the WestJet Stage, a 1,300-seat outdoor concert venue covered by a transparent roof with open sides.

It's Always Something is a once a year special event in Toronto that raises money for Gilda's Club, an incredibly important charity that honours the memory of the late Gilda Radner by providing a place for those suffering from cancer to go to escape, to laugh and to connect with others. Co-produced by Rick Muller and Fred Levy, this year's show featured Corey Hart's return to a Canadian stage, as well as Matt Dusk, Nikki Yanofsky, Colin Mochrie and more. It was hosted by the incredibly funny Ron James, and BWW is thrilled to bring readers photos from the red carpet and the show.

The 2013 Dora Awards took place in Toronto on Monday June 25th at The St Lawrence Centre for the Arts. To accommodate demand, the Bluma theatre was also opened up for guests and the awards were live-streamed via 'Doratron'. As in previous years, there was a glamorous VIP ceremony pre-show followed by a post show street party that closed down Front Street. A record number of Doras were given out, with Young People's Theatre's CINDERELLA the runaway hit of the evening with seven awards. BWW is thrilled readers photos from the evening.
