Farhang Foundation Announces Winner of FREEDOM: A SHARED DREAM Competition

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ Farhang Foundation announced today that Cecil Balmond, OBE, has been selected as the winner ofFreedom: A Shared Dream, an international art competition to create aurban art/sculpturallandmark in honor of the ideals of Cyrus the Great who ruled the ancient Persian Empire 2,600 years ago and championed the principles of religious diversity and personal freedom for all. These same ideals, later became the foundation of the American Constitution and a dream that is shared by many across the world. Once built, Freedom - A Shared Dreamwill be gifted as a landmark to the City of Los Angeles, by Farhang Foundation on behalf of the Iranian-American community.

With a passion for the eccentric and a wild iconoclastic impulse, Enrico Baj (1924-2003) was a central figure of the Italian neo-avant-garde. His art and his political writings have played an instrumental role in the chronologies of influential movements, from Dada and Surrealism to Art Informel and Cobra, as well as the Milanese movement of Nuclear Art, which he co-founded with Sergio Dangelo. Throughout it all, Baj forged an idiosyncratic iconography that was all his own. Departing from gestural abstraction in the mid-1950s, he honed a painterly practice that defiantly embraced figuration and kitsch symbols, subverting authoritative, bourgeois conventions of “good taste'.

Redmoon Hosts SKELEBRATION & BONESHAKER This Weekend

Hubbard Street to Stage U.S. Premiere of SOLO ECHO

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, under the artistic direction of Glenn Edgerton, announces today its second mainstage engagement of the 2015-16 dance season. December 10-13, 2015 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the Season 38 Winter Series featurxes the Hubbard Street premiere and first production by a U.S. dance company of Solo Echo by Crystal Pite, originally created for Nederlands Dans Theater in 2012. Inspired by poet Mark Strand's Lines for Winter and set to excerpts from two sonatas for cello and piano by Johannes Brahms, opuses 38 and 99, Solo Echo is exemplary of the fluidity with which Pite's choreography shifts between dance and theater, using classical and contemporary techniques.

An official Art Basel Miami Beach event celebrating its 12th year, Breakfast in the Park happens on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 9:30 a.m. - noon at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU  (map and directions). This year's event presents American sculptor Alice Aycock as guest-speaker, . Ms. Aycock is represented by the Fredric Snitzer Gallery in Miami. The Snitzer Gallery has generously loaned one of Alice Aycock's sculptures to the Museum during Art Basel week for Breakfast in the Park 2015.
