Solo Performance Artist Bonnie Joy Sludikoff has spent the last 2 years performing her 2014 Hollywood Fringe Hit, That's What She Didn't Say: A True Story of Taboo, Redemption, and Musical Theatre. But always feeling she had blown the chance to have dozens of important, meaningful conversations over the last three years, she's back now with an even bolder approach that shows the collision of rape culture and pop culture from her very personal perspective: BACKWARDS: A COMEDY (ABOUT TRAUMA)

Ryan Landry taps into political and cultural hot topics for the Gold Dust Orphans' new holiday extravaganza. Everyone's favorite villainess Mrs. Grinchley returns, but she has competition from Whitey Bulger and Donald Trump for the most evil character in A LITTLE ORPHAN TRANNY CHRISTMAS. The mash-up of ANNIE and GREY GARDENS is ripe for hysterical situations, great singing and dancing, and the usual caution about leaving the children at home.
Your intrepid correspondent saw two plays this weekend, Andrew Case's THE RANT at the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket and NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH by Alan Ayckbourn Upstage at 2nd Story Theatre in Warren. Each of these plays dealt a violent death at the hands of the police. THE RANT is a powerful, drama about the dark recesses of murder and unknowability, while NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH is a light-hearted romp through the dark recesses of middle-class paranoia. I enjoyed them both very much, but then I'm middle-class with dark recesses of my own.
There are few things in this world more electrifying than watching an ensemble so beautifully rehearsed and polished to the point of perfection. Directed by Michael McKelvey, choreographed by Danny Herman and Rocker Verastique, this tale of fame, fortune, sex and murder in the Jazz Age is the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. And I can say that this particular production is one of the best that I've seen to date.
Coyote StageWorks' BUYER & CELLAR is howlingly funny, brilliantly acted, and cleverly staged. Playwright Jonathan Tolins alternatively skewers Barbra Streisand and sympathizes with her through Alex More, the main character -- all characters are played by Emerson Collins -- after Alex takes a job in Streisand's cellar taking care of her possessions, which are stored in a fake shopping mall.
