On July 7th the girls of Springfield High School received a fun surprise - at each performance a man is selected from the audience to portray the music teacher, Mr. Lee. Last night that participant happened to be Russell Tovey, star of Broadway's The History Boys, and well as HBO's "Looking". Also in the audience were Dee Hoty (Bright Star) and Nancy Opel (Honeymoon in Vegas, Urinetown) as well as Ace Young (American Idol, Broadway's Grease and Hair).
Producer/Directors Tom and Michael D'Angora were welcomed American Idol and Hairspray alum Diana Degarmo to The Marvelous Wonderettes, whose official opening was Thursday, June 2nd. For her opening night performance, DeGarmo was joined onstage with a surprise cameo from her husband, former Idol alum and star of Broadway's Hair, Ace Young, as the audience participant, Mr Lee. The show celebrated with friends and Broadway stars afterwards at Oovina Latin Kitchen and Wine Bar.

Jack F. Lee (born John Francis Lee), beloved musical director of both stage and screen, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2016 in his home at the age of 86. Mr. Lee was one of Broadway's leading conductors and musical directors who worked with composers/lyricists John Kander & Fred Ebb, Cy Coleman & Dorothy Fields, Jule Styne, Richard Rogers, Stephen Sondheim, Charles Strouse, Alan Jay Lerner, Maury Yeston, Robert Wright & George Forrest, Sandy Wilson, Bob Merrill, Betty Comden & Adolph Green and Harvey Schmidt & Tom Jones.
